Felix Salten, the pen name of Austrian writer Sigmund Salzmann, was born on September 6, 1869. He is best known as the author of "Bambi: A Life in the Woods," a classic of 20th Century children's literature that was later turned into a popular animated film by Walt Disney.
Salten wrote many novels featuring animals as the main characters, including "Bambi's Children," "Perri," "A Forest World," "Fifteen Rabbits," "Renni the Rescuer" and "Florian, the Emperor's Stallion." I've long admired Salten's writing, and his books have been a major influence on my life and my creative work.

Summer programming has returned to the RooToo video channel!
Twilight Sparkle and the Mane Six are off for the summer and will return in October. Taking their place will be a couple of unique and amusing series: SWAT Kats and the ever-popular T.U.F.F. Puppy! Sunday through Thursday evenings on RooToo. As the Summer continues, other shows will be added, so stay tuned!

The Ponies aren't completely gone, however! We would normally start with our special 10th Anniversary celebration of Season FIVE of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic. However, back in 2015 the series went on a mini-hiatus. So for the next few weeks we'll show episodes form a rare "summer replacement series," Malibu U. This was a music/variety show that ran on the ABC TV network in the summer of 1967.
We'll follow that with a selection of pony music videos (PMVs) and short films. After that, some classic short cartoons on Toon In With Me. Next, episodes of fan favorites Swat Kats and T.U.F.F. Puppy (part of our "summer pony replacement" series).
Then, we'll wind things up with the next film in our RooToo Summer Movie Series: The Time Machine, the classic Sci-Fi film produced by Geroge Pal.
I might also host a live artstream tonight -- stay tuned!

On Saturdays, the RooToo Channel begins with an hour and a half of classic cartoons at 3:15 pm CT.
Then, on Saturday night, after The Three Stooges, Svengoolie, Batman, Star Trek and Duck Dodgers, you can watch back-to-back episodes of that classic 1960s sitcom, Dobie Gillis. Like, don't be a square, man! Tune in to the RooToo channel on RooCam LIVE!
(NOTE: We sometimes skip Svengoolie, et. al., in favor of "Alternate Programming" -- movies, TV shows, short films or classic cartoons.)

I discovered that Bambi was written in an english translation and in an American translation. The American. translation removes much of the death scenes i.e. the chipmunk bleeding to death and another fawn lost its mum to hunters but then raised by man only to get shot to death thinking all humans where kind.

I have an original 1939 copy of Bambi's Children, and a 1942 edition of Fifteen Rabbits.

I've seen it. Either as a pre-feature short or perhaps on the Disney TV show.
