We heavily regulate it, have specific policies in place in which you must have a license to operate it, and can have said license revoked. We also have many clauses in the law that prevent the usage of a car while you are intoxicated, have bad eyesight, or otherwise are deemed unfit to drive. We have strict laws in place for car ownership that must be adhered to the T. We have cases in which the car itself can be removed for any reason if it is present in someone else's private property.
So you're arguing that guns should have stricter regulation like cars do? Neat.

We already have regulations that prevent people from owning certain weapons in states. Butterfly knives are one common one, but there's also flamethrowers in one state, rocket launchers in a few states, and heavy machine guns in another state (The kind that needs a mount).
Now, lets get into your statistics! "Cars kill 40k people in the USA Every year-" Are these intentional homicides? Or accidents? You mentions "Gun homicides". Because wielding a gun means you're intent on killing someone. Wielding a car to intentionally kill someone is more around the 5,000 a year, give or take, and even then, those people shouldn't be using cars to begin with, usually in mental duress or suffering from some form of violent issue. What is wild is that many of those accidents in cars require 2-8 people to be involved in it, while a vast majority of gun homicides aren't mass shootings, but individual shootings, such as someone shooting their spouse, or a person getting shot by a gang, while car based death tends to kill multiple people frequently. But you're not wanting the math behind that, you want to point out "LOOK AT MY BIGGER NUMBER!" >w>...

finally if deaths were adjusted for amount of time used then the rate of deaths by guns would approach a straight vertical line (remember count only the time being used. as a garaged car not running has zero lethality.

As for guns, I believe in the second amendment, but I'm definitely not a gun nut. I have a few for protection, for my property, myself, partner and for the most part, my critters. I only popped one dog because it was chasing my deer. I also have lost deer do to stray dogs
