Mintty woke up at 1 a.m., again.
They didn’t plan to, their body just decided that was the hour. The city outside was asleep, and for a moment, it almost felt like the world had paused just for them.
They brewed some tea, the cheap kind that somehow tastes like comfort when you’re too tired to care, and sat in front of their drawing tablet. The soft blue light filled the small apartment, reflecting off sketchbooks piled in messy towers. The silence was heavy, but gentle in its own way.
These were their favorite hours. The internet felt quieter too... like everyone had collectively stopped pretending for a while. Mintty drew in that hush, losing themself in the rhythm of brushstrokes and color blending. Every line was a small act of grounding, a way to not think too much about the things they didn’t want to think about... family, home, the weight of old stories.
Sometimes they opened Discord, scrolling through art servers, maybe looking for someone to talk to. Not really to say much, just to share a bit of company with another night owl behind another glowing screen somewhere. Maybe that counted as friendship. Maybe it was enough.
They didn’t talk much about the countryside. Or about who they used to be there. Some memories belonged to another version of themself, one they weren’t ready to revisit.
Now they were just Mintty.
A digital artist in the city.
Trying to live quietly, draw beautifully, and forget gracefully.
The tea had gone cold by the time they noticed. But the night still had hours left 🍃✨
