I've been having a lot of inspiration for some longer stories of my own lately, one of which has stuck with me quite strongly. I'm thinking to call it "The Tiniest Princess and Her Mighty Dragon", or something to that effect.
Basic premise is local villainous dragon wants the oldest princess from the nearby kingdom, so he sends a kobold spy/thief to retrieve her. He has proven quite effective at breaking into well-guarded places and making off with artifacts and treasure, so the dragon sees fit to send him out to steal him a princess. However, having no prior experience with "stealing" the living, and only standing around two feet tall, the kobold is uncertain about his ability to kidnap a full-sized princess. So he visits a witch/shaman for something to help him in his quest and is given a scroll with a powerful spell which he is promised will make the princess "quite transportable."
Skip forward to his infiltration, and he uses the scroll on a sleeping princess. As the magic takes hold, she is shrunk to the size of a thimble, so he quickly wraps her up and stuffs her in a pouch. Unfortunately for the kobold, he accidentally kidnapped the wrong princess, stealing not the oldest as he was commanded to, but the middle child.
Without bringing him the right princess, the dragon will not offer a reward. Without a reward, the kobold will not be able to pay the witch/shaman like he promised for the scroll he used. Without more magic or help, the kobold will not be able to kidnap the correct princess, especially since the castle is on high alert with the disappearance of one of the royal family. So nobody's happy, especially the princess who's been kidnapped! Now the kobold's living on the run, with a 1-inch princess in tow! Shenanigans ensue as he protects her, befriends her, and eventually pledges to help find a way to turn her back to normal.
So the question/poll part comes in here - what species would make for a good princess for this story? My original thought was to make her human, and I still might, but there's dozens and dozens of other options available, particularly within the fandom... Anyone have any suggestions?

Hmmmm. Why not a feline or canine race? And this is an amazing idea!
