Dude, for the same price or maybe fifty dollars more you can get a dinky little laptop to write on that lets you see more than just a few lines of text at a time XP That thing looks like such a pain on the eyes!

And getting a full featured laptop completely defeats the purpose, lol. I need an AlphaSmart Neo because I have too many distractions on my current laptop. I don't understand why it's so ridiculously expensive (I don't see why it should cost more than $40) but I need that or something like it! Or else I get carried away with other things I can do and don't get any work done.

Don't install Firefox and disable the wireless card altogether :3 I actually used to write my stories on an old, OLD brick of a laptop that only had DOS on it <.< when the screen broke, it wasn't even a laptop anymore! I had to plug it into a giant CRT monitor XD

I can see what your saying about distractions.... but I still find it handy to be able to look up the spelling (or, uhm.... definition....) of some of the fancy words I words <.<

Well, Firefox and IE are kind of already installed, and I'm not the only person who uses this laptop so I can't just uninstall key programs. And turning off the wireless card doesn't really work since I could just as easily turn it on. Even without the internet, I always find other things to do (which I must do occasionally since the wireless card on this PoS laptop only works half the time). As far as spelling goes, that can be fixed when I transfer it over to the PC and I have a old fashioned paper thesaurus on hand to use.

I only wish there was a cheaper alternative. I mean jeez, it's just a basic stand alone word processor. It seems they have a monopoly on the market for such devices and lord knows they're milking the hell out of that deal.

I would, but I get hand cramps easily. =/

Also, editing on paper is messy and difficult. Digital editing allows me to move sentences around, replace words, etc without having a haze of black eraser marks and torn paper getting in my way. That plus the aforementioned hand cramps make the AlphaSmart a better alternative.

I do use paper for shorter, less serious writings, though. But for a short story I need something more.

Plus I write pretty slow by hand.
