Intuos Tablets

General
I'm looking in to investing in one pretty soon here (like, when school starts this month) and I'm working if folks who own one can give me pros and cons about the 2's and 3's.
I've USED a 3 before. I REALLY like it, so that's mostly what I'm doing my comparing to. I OWN an old Graphire (like, circa 2001 old) who's served me well and will probably get passed along to a friend when I get an Intuos.
I really like how smooth the 3 is, so I'm really wondering if there's a huge difference between that and the 2. I don't want to spend a crapton of money (I'll probably buy one used), and the 2's run a little cheaper. Is it just the addition of the side buttons that makes the huge difference? Because, as convenient as they are, I can probably live without them.

The 12x12 was a better tablet, honestly. They're just hard as hell to find. It was smoother, the pen was more comfortable, and the little side buttons weren't there to get in my way. I'm a lefty, they're on the left side, I have to disable them or I smack them all the time with my hand, so they're useless to me.
I used the 12x12 and the Graphire on the same images, as it was easier to fill large areas with the smaller Graphire, but digital inking and detailing went to the Intuos.
The buttons are more of a convenience for me. I can live without them if I don't have 'em. I'm used to using the keyboard for shortcuts anyhow.
I really liked the feel of the older Intos tables over this new one. And a friend of mine has a Wacom 12x12 that's even older than the Intuos I had, and it was just really freaking nice too.
I miss my big tablet.
And yes, I'll send you a note with the address right now. :)
I have a commission I did for you awhile back that I, apparently, do not have the address for. Could you +note me with it and I'll get it sent out to you? :3
Intuos4 are designed for wide-screen monitors and have more sensitivity than their predecessors.
The difference is the additional buttons (that I don't use) and a more plastic drawing surface. The 3 and 4 are matte while the 2 has a protective plastic layer that you can slide art under and "trace"
