lol a very tactical play! Good strategy!! lol here, it's not so much a guilty secret, but I'll share a silly if not a little embarrassing story with you for the Holidays! Speaking of Fondu, I've never had it before, though I've wanted to give it a try! lol funnily enough, I used to be afraid of that word, because I didn't know what it meant! To explain, I watched a cartoon as a kid called Nightmare Ned, which was a fun and surreal, if not creepy at times, show about the titular child "Ned", who had something of an overactive imagination and was prone to nightmares and nodding off. They had this one episodes with Zombies, which I was TERRIFIED of, and I think the episode had a kind of Corpse Bride angle to it where a zombie was trying to marry Ned in his Nightmare, and at one point they're trying to put together a meal or something, and there's just zombies moaning "Fondu". lol being a child and having no idea what that was, my brain decided "Ah, that's a Zombie noise, and I'm now terrified of that because that means there's Zombies here." lol so hopefully I can give you a chuckle for the Holidays!

*laughs... fondu is good. It's not just cheese on a stick, there are some ingredients if made from scratch. The cheese is then placed in a pot and melted (cheese fondu) and then you have bowls of things like little sausages, chunks of bread, olives, apples, anything that pleases you. You stick some of that on a long skinny fork, did it in the cheese, and eat it. There are also other types of fondu where you use heated olive oil and then cook your meat in it.

Oh yeah, lol since then I've learned what it is, and you have me at cheese lol!! I'd love to try it some time! Lol but I think until the age of like 12 or so, fondue wasn't a thing, that's just a zombie noise!! Lol

There's also a chocolate fondue for dessert, with things like cake and brownie cubes, bananas/strawberries, and other fruit, and marshmallows.
There are restaurants that do a full 3-course meal from fondue, starting with cheese for an appetizer, oil for the main course, and chocolate for dessert.

I THOUGHT I heard of a chocolate one too!! Lol that all sounds very very good!!

Strangely enough, I 100% understand but for a different/similar reason. You would think... after decades of amplifiers cranked to 11... years in a ships engine room with steam turbines screaming so loudly you had to wear 3 sets of ear protection (louder than standing behind a jet)... and tuning racing engines with your ear... that I would be stone deaf.
But no.
Great Grandfather gifted me with coyote hearing so hyper that I literally cannot sleep without some kind of 'white noise' set to proper levels. I use a fan... or music... or both. I also have a CD with nothing but the sound of surf washing the sandy shore. That'll drop me off in the blink of an eye.

So, yeah... I 100% get where you're coming from.

Oh Theo... you are so very very lucky... as to falling asleep - I can do that at the drop of a hat.

Vrghr knows that feeling! Wuff doesn't have your amazing hearing, but when the room is too quite, every little sound kicks in the "what was that?" response. Wuff has an Amazon "dot" in the room for various 'smart home' things. Wuffy wired it to the stereo, and Vrghr just asks Alexa to play whatever sounds good that night: Rain on a tin roof, washing machine, distant thunder storm, or mellow, soothing music like "Liquid Mind", "spa station", "binaural beats", and others. And wuff can ask to have Alexa turn off the tunes or turn them down after he's nodded off, so unexpected "upbeat" music or sudden noises don't wake wuffy up again.

It's quite a nice sleeptime solution for Vrghr.

Yeah. I simply cannot sleep with any sudden or sharp occasional noises. An owl off the back porch... an early morning whippoorwill... dogs barking across the valley... ect, ect. Some good ambient sound or music or my surf CD. All work fine if the volume is adjusted just so.

Of course it has a bonus (my hearing). My alarm clock is kept in the next room, set at full volume. When that thing screams, I am out of bed in the blink of an eye. LOL.

I prefer listening to Nightwish on Christmas. December 25 is lead songwriter Tuomas Holopainen's birthday.

Ya' know, I do the same thing with my earphones when shopping this time of year and I can't stand the christmas music in the store. It doesn't take very much volume on my MP3 player to completely drown out the store's music and I can enjoy my time there. Good thinking with the hearing aids!


The music from Charlie Brown Christmas is incredibly nostalgic for me (and so many others in our age range). Growing up, we watched that cartoon every year. Same for Rudolph. It was such a happy time back then, sitting in the living room lit only by the christmas tree lights and watching Charlie Brown and Rudolph. The memory brings a tear to the eye. I kind of have to feel sorry for younger kids these days who might never see them and will never build the sense of feeling that comes from hearing that music. (I got both of those soundtracks for my mom on CD so they get played a lot this time of year.)

OMG, I was at Governor's Island in school for the CG when Charlie Brown premiered... And Rudolf, saw that premiere too. Back then, that was on the cutting edge of animation. That was way before twinkle lights, too. We had the BIG BULBS.

Thanks much V... and... when we were at my son's, they made the announcement we were going to again be grandparents. Mind you, I am not unhappy about this, but as in all things, a more stable baseline of things might have helped ease the shock a bit.

That's great! Our family get togethers have become quite small due to the usual attrition just my sister and her husband, my middle brother and me. Sometimes my niece comes down from Boston-land with her... 😳The one person who never shows is no longer allowed by his wife/girlfriend/whatever to associate with his family. We're evil because in her eyes, we denied her his birthright.

They just interviewed one of the "children" from the choir of a Charlie Brown Christmas. He's now a docent at the Charles Schultz museum. There was a get together of some of the remaining people from the choir to sing together (it sounded fun).

so there is a use for old age and hearing aids. Clever you. I would try it but I don't have family anymore to drown out so the issue solved itself. Duhey and I had a quiet Christmas, I don't mind him being noisy. Unfortunately any plans we had in mind got disrupted because I had a high fever for 2 days, cause unknown. Doing well now. Glad you had a good Christmas.
