I feel slightly retarded. The reason my files wouldn't back up on my hardrive was because apparently I was using an old version of Ubuntu. I snagged the new one, used it, and had absolutely NO problems whatsoever backing up all my files. In fact, not just all my files, but my entire windows thanks to the fact that I bought myself a new 500GB external hard drive to back up all my crap. The smaller one I had just wouldn't have been able to save all my files. I feel much more secure now.
Now all that's left is to reinstall windows and hope it works! My poor baby *pets computer*
Spending money was probably not a great thing for me in my slowly depleting money situation, but let's face it, my files, especially my pictures, are THAT important. My art is very special to me and if I lose something I can't replace, I'd be distraught.

When this is all fixed I think I'll need a day break to kick back and relax. I did draw some yesterday though, so yeah. Hopefully I wont be set back anymore. Wrist pain, FA going down, and compy going kerphoot really wasn't helping me get commishies done at all >:V
btw my compy's name is Cow. Everyone pet Cow for being such a trooper through all this :3

I had to format the external drive to make it work again, but I was able to back up my files successfully this time. Discovered the fan went nuts whenever the screensaver came up for god knows what reason. I got the dust out, so now all that needs to be done is to reinstall windows, put my files back in, reinstall all the proper drivers, programs, games, updates, etc, then I'll be home free.
My biggest issue now besides all that, is that I lost all my firefox bookmarks, and that means all my hard searched for recipes, game guides, forums, art websites, the many reference pages I needed for projects, and the many different websites I searched for that had certain anime/manga I wanted to read. ; x;
I feel dumb for not backing my firefox links, apparently you can do that, but I didn;t know and now ish too late T________T
This is the third time I've had to completely refind all my bookmarks and I know for certain will lose a LARGE portion of them.
My poor poor green tea cookie recipe that took hours to find T xT
Damn I wonder how long it'll take to reinstall everything.. That includes photoshop, manga studio, guild wars, windows media.... fffffff
And I'll have to sort through all my files again so I can make sure all my music and cwap is in the right place X ___X
Installing Windows won't take more than 10-15 Min. But you need to reformat the computer now so that will take about an 1-1.75 hours.
Installing all your programs, games and transferring files back will take a good day. But this is something you can do little by little. I think after you find a job I would suggest to save for a new computer for yourself, this one is pushing into it's 3rd year and its been screwing up more and more often and isn't quite handling your needs well enough.
Also, loving the new avatar.
Blowing air from your body can put moisture on the electronics, whether it be spit or precipitation from your breath. I ruined many a gameboy game doing that as a kid >___>; Learned my lesson the hard way.
Compressed air, as powerful as it seems, doesn't leave anything behind that would mess up your computer. It's powerful enough to get dust that your breath just can't get without you blowing spit everywhere in the process, but it's not strong enough to do any damage.
Course one of my old friends did the stupid thing, which was use it on his hand. He had a bad burn from that. >___>; Liquid nitrogen does NOT go on the skin, nuh uh D:
However, the shut down is worrysome. There are only a few reasons a computer does that. Since you were booted into a Linux OS, a software crash is not likely one of them. Since your fan started going nuts, that makes me think it was a heating issue or.. worse, a hardware short. Check which fan was spinning loudly. Hopefully not your CPU fan. A computer will turn itself off if the CPU suddenly overheats. If you cannot get files off the computer due to those shut downs, you may have to take the HD to your mothers computer to move files off. It's not the HD that's causing the shut down, so your mom's computer would be able to drag it off without random shut downs.
