I'm in the former Confederate States Of America, but this proposed law for Australia's ISP providers still pisses me off. It boils down to people forcing their opinion of what is indecent or inappropriate on other people.

Now holy fucking shit! I am no australian, but what the hell? I thought Australia was a democracy, and democracies do not do such a shit. How can they think about limiting EVERY citizen in his right of handling with free information? This is stupid, and nothing else. The effect of protecting children will be almost so small to get invisible, but the countries citizens anger is gonna be ultimate! I would have really not expected something like thi from Australian government, but.......... damned, I cannot believe it! I was already somewhat surprised that China was limiting their internet access to people, but China is dictatorship, so we shouldn't wonder that much. But Australia....... I have the guess that your politicians are just plain stupid. How can they seriously think, that this could work out? A big cut into everybody's right of freedom in any way, just for a rather questionable try of saving children from medial content, which isn't even said, will hurt them in any spiritual way? Yes its quite ridiculous... >.> seriously.... they want to do it to stop children playing them.. but, WHY cant the parents tell the kid *NO* you cant have it!!! and obviously if a kid tried to buy it, they'd need to show ID anyway, it sucks big time. Its the parents fault if the kid plays something inappropriate, everyone else shouldnt have to suffer a lower rating because of this!

Also, when even thinking about the fact that children might get hands on such games... It is not like every damned kid which plays violent games at a young age will become a murderer, terrorist or criminal in any kind of way. Most of my friends have already played such "inappropriate" games at a young age, and all of them are spiritually healthy.

This is the problem with governments generally. Supposedly none of them does have a serious clue about gaming and videogames, but keeps arguing about the stuff at no end. Giant problem when somebody has power over something where he doesn't know anything serious about >_>

Australia has been notorious for censoring games or outright banning them. I know this is about internet censorship but for background purposes it has to be noted that in the past Australia has been uptight about censoring other media.

Oh yes we are raging on the games thing too (nest journal will have a link up for people to submit a survey thing to say that we agree there should be an R18+ rating for games in aus! (even gave a heap to the local game stores too!)
