I am seriously going to have an aneurism!

Has anyone read some of the testimony coming out of the Prop 8 trial? I was listening to a gay podcast I frequent and they mentioned the name William Tam and quoted some of his "expert" testimony--much of which centered around his conclusion from all his years of study that gays are 12 times more likely to be pedophiles and that allowing gays to marry would lead to opening the floodgates for pedophilia, bestiality, and would cause a whole generation of children to be interested in turning gay. And that gay marriage should not be considered a civil right.
Turns out this guy is also associated with a group called "American Return to God Prayer Movement". Gee--what a huge fucking shock. Another evangelical dickhead trying to shoehorn his personal religious attitudes and beliefs into law. He's another fucking bigot inventing "facts and figures" to bolster his desire to preclude heathens from being allowed basic civil rights.
In fact I saw a news item about the Prop 8 trail the other day and looked at some of the comments on the message boards and was absolutely stunned by the number of vicious, hate-filled diatribes about how evil and depraved gay people are...all using religion as their reason. (Ironically, a few days later, some of these SAME people were posting to the message boards about how ignorant and out of touch the Vatican was to deride Avatar as being wrong for putting "worship of nature" above any concept of God. I guess they forgot how ignorant and out of touch they were in their previous posts.)
I am sick and tired of these two-faced hypocrites using a God and a Bible I basically consider to be mythology to tell me how I'm allowed to live my fucking life. They literally can't even PROVE anything they believe--or even agree amongst themselves about what they believe, but I'M supposed to adhere to their ideals for society, no matter how evil they are! AAARRRRRGGGH! THIS is why I have raging hypertension!
But at least the big corporations can now spent an unlimited amount of money to specifically finance any candidate they want...that's obviously not a horrific idea. Right?
Seriously, if Palin is elected in 2012 I swear I will move to Canada and write this idiot-packed country off as a lost cause. If that actually happens, and it very well could, that's exactly what this country will be.

FA+

Sadly, I don't think this one will likely go the same way because it's not all about scientific facts. On the upside, hopefully Dr. Tran here will expose the underlying hatred, fear, and irrationality that is fueling the anti-marriage side.
Amazingly enough... everyone started calling it the Trail of Queers....
Also amazingly enough... it never happened.... If Palin gets elected (which is unlikely) It wont happen.
The borg do not deserve such a comparison.
I think if a real taliban of Christianity started, the irony would be too much and the universe would commit suicide.
The fact that the real fundies don't grasp or even want to grasp the concept that the have turned their back on the fundamentals of their religion and shit on all that christ suffered for. This irony makes me laugh and cry at the same time.
However, it becomes a sad case when fundamentalism goes back and applies Old Testament theology (reserved for Judaism) to modern day issues. WRONG. You can't. Yet these religious whackos draw flocks to themselves because people have been fed lies about relationships that are foreign to them.
I know the topic doesn't concern me much as I'm from the UK but this still has that special ability to really get me riled up....and honestly, "if Palin is elected in 2012 I swear I will move to Canada and write this idiot-packed country off as a lost cause. If that actually happens, and it very well could, that's exactly what this country will be. ", there are a good number of people over here who've written it off already i'd say. Not that the UK isn't far behind so...hmm...Canada here i come i think or possibly Sweden they're all suitably insane there for my liking.
Now, I happen to be kinda knowledgeable about the Old Testament although I'm not a great expert. There's about two sentences which might apply to homosexuality in the OT; there's one sentence condemning laying with a man as with a woman as an abomination, which might very well be about anal sex only (you can see how anal sex would be a taboo for people with no condoms and limited bathing, right?). And there's a sentence which forbids crossdressing, which is probably about nearby ecstatic cults (and Judaism has clear benchmarks of being an ecstatic cult itself - Barbara Ehrenreich talks about this a lot more in her book Dancing in the Streets).
Whereas whoever the OT's mysterious authors were, they were much more focused on which varieties of vulture you can't eat, or how to build a portable shrine out in the desert. On the other hand they write, repeatedly, that you should honor strangers among you as yourselves for you, too, were strangers in Egypt. This shows up a lot more than any one sentence about now-much-safer possible-anal-sex.
What I get out of that is that a halakhic interpretation of the Old Testament could consider homosexuality and therefore same-sex marriage, to be perfectly okay.
So any ban that may have been placed on same sex relations (back then) were placed there BECAUSE those relationships had the inability to have children. It went against the original promise made to Abram (Abraham): "Your descendants will be as numerous as the grains of sand on the seashore."
So using any Old Testament argument against homosexuality today is invalid: the ORIGINAL premise had NOTHING to do with what's going on today. And when I last looked, Jesus had nothing to say about it.
I'm not a religious person (I'm quite spiritual though - big difference!) but if I were to believe there were a devil, I'd imagine him laughing hysterically at how he's fooled all the "Christians" into thinking that vile hatred is the path to salvation.
And second, if you move to Canada...can I move in with you?
Maybe, although, I already have "room-mate" prospects in Canada. ^0^
When BUSHwhacko was in office, the Republican Party glossed over all his failures. They sure will not let Obama breathe easy.
Shame we can't get a truly conservative president.
"Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral."
But it wasn't written for us! It was written for anyone who is married and fools around outside that marriage! Dear Lord, that's over HALF the current population as well as many of these so-called Evangelicals!!!!
And guess what? Since we can't get married in a whole lot of states, where the heck does that passage leave us??? I am positive that history will show that there has always been same-sex relationships since forever.
Until "Fundies" realize that the Bible isn't LITERAL, you'll get narrow-minded, skewed whackos ready to kill innocent people. I guess the gays are the new "Witch Hunt."
They need other "projects" to occupy their time: "Idle hands are the Devil's work" <-- Old Proverb.
Idle minds are just stupid people. The Devil needs them like, well, like a "hole in the head." LOLZ
Mostly it's silly and fun, but sometimes they have serious things to say.
Good luck movin' up cuz IIIIIIIII'm movin' out.
I'm really hoping they do have her run in 2012. If Obama can't >destroy< her in an election, then this country deserves her, and I'll be right there with ya in Canada.
Alas, if Palin is the GOP candidate for 2012, it would be an even worse choice of candidates than in '04. Seriously, I have no confidence in either her or Obama. Then again, it's nearly impossible to find a politician I'd actually like.
That, and my stance on marriage is a little different. I don't think the government should be using the word marriage at all. Any Union formed under the eyes of the law alone, gay or straight, should be called civil union. The word marriage should have no legal standing. That way, the whole marriage debate can shift to semantics arguments and conservative churches vs. progressive churches, where it should stay, far away from the government. Then gay couples can get their tax breaks and insurance perks, and religious types won't have a legal leg to stand on. Go ahead, go protest gay civil unions and make collective asses of yourselves. Or try banning gays from using the word marriage; that would be even funnier.
Wait, where was I?
The First Amendment starts with the words, "Congress shall make no laws respecting..." Do you honestly think that the people who wrote and ratified it really meant "Congress shall make some laws respecting..."? The only reason that you are not forced into a Federally approved religion is that the First Amendment "no" means "no". That is also the reason that we can have our furry yiff art on FA without being put in prison for it. The disadvantages of respecting the First Amendment as it as written far exceed the disadvantages. Do you want to loose all your First Amendment rights the next time the other party is in power? If "no" means "some", we will all be royally raped.
Gay should be NO DIFFERENT than straight or bi (or trans for that matter.) PERIOD. A human being is a human being and should be given the exact same personal rights as any other. Man, woman, black, white, brown, gay, straight, bi...etc.
The largest county in Nevada just legalized male prostitutes, and it was the most conservative County Commissioners who voted for it.
I consider myself to be moderately religious. I feel like the goal of religion is to have something accessible, uniting, and to put you in touch with big stuff. Really big stuff. Archetypical stuff. I know I sound like Joseph Campbell, but I think mythology is a truth 'way bigger than just literal interpretation. And this religious stuff isn't just being stupidly literal, but using that stupid literalism to hurt everyone. We get our rights taken away by these assholes, and they get stuck with a definition of God which is hostile, abusive, and nasty.
