Yeah, usually for me the sketch or even the lineart is where I say what I want or feel. Sometimes my words can be harsh but usually with the right level of transparency its better for everyone n,,n

I would say sometimes it takes balls to say it to a good artist that you wanna change how the pic looks, but then again its not as hard online as in real life I think n,,n

Its a great way to learn, sometimes crits can be harsh but nearly all the time they help give some insight into a pic :3

I used to think most artists on FA where overpriced [LOL] then began to realize the true value is in the customer service, the reputation, the brand [very true x3] and the overall experience with the artist.

Plus some guys just like it as a chance to chat with the artist, if its someone like blotch or narse maybe n..n hehe

Hmm, did you make sure to ask him what he thought of the pic when you showed him the sketch, like crits or such ?

I've done that before, literally said "tear this pic to bits if you want, to help it look more how you want", but sometimes they say nothing and secretly bitch about me to their friends, happened to me a few times x..x

I did show him the sketch for his approval, and several notes once the picture was done, looking for his feedback. He never expressed any desire to change things. I understand his disappointment at the final picture, and was in complete agreement with him on it.

If he said anything at all before I posted the final picture, I would have been willing to try again. But now, it seems to be a bit of a moot point.

Just be careful though - I don't know Shadowulf well enough to speak for his character, but be a little wary as I believe behavior like this could possibly be a tactic to get extra art out of you. In my opinion, if no changes/alterations or fixes were given when you showed the sketch, then he can't wait until all of the final work is done to complain about the quality.

I can identify with wanting to do an image over for personal reasons - as the artist, you know what you're capable of producing and you call the shots, so if he benefits from receiving a second picture entirely decided by you then that is what you wish. I feel it isn't proper to approve the sketch for completion and then have the audacity to tell you it's not your best work.

I could be wrong, I don't know if his other commissions proceed this same way, it just seems a little suspicious to me. If he paid for the art, he does have a right to expect a product equal to the price, however most artists would charge an extra fee for corrections that are given this late in the game. He missed the opportunity to have things corrected; it's not fair to have to do the image over because he couldn't communicate.

Just my 2 cents :/

*by "call the shots", I mean no one can force your hand to re-do a picture except you. I didn't want that to be perceived as the artist acting like a dictator, disregarding the realistic wishes of a client.

To be fair. I'm mostly doing this remake because I wasn't happy with the picture myself. I gave him something I wasn't happy with, because it was taking me so long to do. No commissioner should act like that. :(

In the end, I think a re-do will make us both happier, though this is NOT going to be a common occurance!

That's not right, you don't do that with commissioned work. If you squander your chances to get something changed before it's final, you don't have a right to complain. The money you spent doesn't grant you that.

I think that you should not spend double the time on one commission. He is at fault and he should deal with it.

And I wouldn't mind seeing the actual image that seems to have caused all this trouble =/ your works are always beautiful and it's sad to hear that you had to take one down.

You should not be doing it over because he failed to give feedback during the sketch phase. It was rude and unneccessary for him to do this to you, thus it his HIS fault not yours.

If one doesn't say anything during the sketch part to change things, I would go ahead with finishing it, not pulling what shadowulf did. It was rude and unneeded drama because of things he didn't like.

Ah let me say this, redo his first before anything related to, ah you know the drill.

in all respect to  skyshadow his other art is what made me commission him as I like his fursona and the style he uses when doing his picture but the pic he did for me was no where near that same style I mean no offence skyshadow but the head reminded me of brian griffin from family guy :/

I know I should have said ealier in the process about what I really thought about it but I'm passive usually and jsut agree with everything to save arguments even if I really do hate the pic. But this was a long awaited picture going back 5 months or more so I exspected it to be good but in my eyes and a lot of others it just wasn't good thought on the good point he did do a good job on the shading which some artists jsut don't pay attention to sometimes so thats a plus.

If I ever do commission him again (not sure if I will) then I'mm be open of what I think of the sketch

This not something you should be bitching about on a COMPLETED PICTURE.

It's kind of crappy to punish an artist by threatening to never commission them again because YOU made a mistake, you know. Why would you try to make them feel bad when they did nothing wrong? But I guess you're doing them a favour if you don't commission them again, I think you're just in it to try to get free extra art at this point.

no about 90% of the pics in my gallery are paid for commissions i very rarely get free art and the thing is the past pics i am happy or in fact love but that was just embarressing as i read some of the comments on that pic

If you didn't mind it before the comments, it's stupid to mind it and demand the artist change it after the comments. Have a backbone. If you're happy with the art that's all that matters. If you're not, tell them when it's in a stage where they can actually change it easily. Personally, I would never take a commission from you because you come off pretty ungrateful about the effort put into art. You don't seem to find it to be worth much, and that's a shame.

Just the fact you've done this at least twice now makes you look like a scammer. Just keep that in mind for the future, and a lot of people know your name now and to avoid you. And yes, it is your own fault. I'm sure I sound harsh, but you were pretty damned harsh, too. You're lucky these artists were willing to give into your demands, many would have told you to fuck off for being so rude and inconsiderate.

well when i am a paying commissioner i demand them to at least draw at their best of their abilities and even skyshow admitted himself he didn't like it adn that it was nothing as good as his others. I paid and waited a long long time for that pic so I thought it would ahve been decent but it wasn't and about hasegawa vega, I've commissioned in 4 times now and the last pic was jsut embarressing more then anythign as some of the comment that have been made

Why didn't you ask these artists to change things when they were in the sketch phase? Why did you wait until they were completely finished? Do you understand why waiting until the whole thing is complete is a problem and a bad thing to do?

Sorry, but it doesn't work that way. Being 'a busy guy' doesn't mean you get to violate people's TOS's and be a jerk to them. I think this would have turned out differently if you had at least been kind and polite with your requests and understood if they declined. But you were too lazy to bring things up when they could be easily fixed and then blamed the artist when they got upset about how you treated them, and that's why people are angry at you. You're not a victim. You've shown poor commissioning behaviour and I really think you should self-reflect instead of insisting that you did nothing wrong and everyone else is just a meanie-face.

I don't hate you or even know you, but I'm a neutral party and I was pretty pissed off by how you treated these people who worked to bring your character to life. Show more respect. Bring problems up when you see them, and be polite and proper about it. Okay?
