I've spoken with a couple of people about it and I would like to see what everyone else thinks.
Do you personally see a difference in the meaning between these two phrases?
"What's up?"
and
"How are you?"

i would think 'whats up' indicates interest in your current events/surrounding. and 'how are you' indicates the person either cares or has little to say; due to social inability or lack of interest.

What's up seems more casual, almost rhetorical, or just a way to start a conversation... how are you sounds like the asker is a little more interested in the other's feelings... at least, that's how it seems, sorta.
