Do you folks have advice, either legal or general, on interpreting state laws that regulate the production of art?
I would like to know more about the boundaries of obscenity laws and the like in my state, but I'm not sure I fully understand the wording of the relevant statutes. I don't want to hire a lawyer, because that is pretty expensive. I'm just looking for resources that I can access on my own time, either for free or a nominal fee.

On the internet, you can post whatever you damn well please. ;P
Sorry to sound so blase', but there are actually very, VERY few of such laws. It is more the manor of HOW art is presented that the law can apply to.
Plagiarism or profit are the two biggies. Otherwise, almost anything you can think of is totally legal in art.
If someone drew offense, they could petition the web domain's owner.
But the first amendment pretty much reigns when it comes to art.
How long have you BEEN here?!
They post crap here that is far worse than ANYTHING you can come up with, seriously, trust me on this.
I only come to this site for the artists I appreciate on it.
(that has come to include you, dingledork)
Trust me, I guarantee beyond the shadow of any doubt that no one will be offended by what you post here--ANYTHING is suited to this particular madhouse. Just browse the recent additions for a while. You'll see, and then you'll need a long, hot shower.
(Hell, one of my favorite artists here posts things that sometimes seriously offend me on a rather deep level. But I still like the rest of his art, and I REALLY like talking with him)
Whether or not you post something here should be determined by whether or not you WANT others to read it, not what crowd you think will judge you for it. That's part of the whole point of art itself.
Besides, I want to read your work, but I DON'T want to go about the muckitty-muck for registering at a new site...
I'm not very good with computers, they scare me...
Ok, that makes sense.
So, what's the name of that other site again?
