That's absolutely ridiculous. The idea that the U.S has the right to actually jail someone for buying art of what he's into, is just angering! I mean that's like jailing someone for drawing yiff! If you're into it, then whatever. They should look at it like this, at least he's not out there having sex with children & animals. I mean ugh. That's just ridiculous and personally, though I'm not into that stuff, I think it's an insult to the slogan "Land of the Free" because everything in this country has a law on it. Limiting artistic expression is just idiotic.

That's the thing, they -aren't- looking at it like that. They're approaching it more from the "If this is his interest...how long until he goes out and does something unsavory to someone else?"

Which is somewhat understandable, but at the same time it's still a restriction of freedoms which is supposedly offered by the United States. Idk that's like arresting anyone in the furry fandom who draws porn because they think they might go off and have sex with animals >n<! Idk things like this just annoy me at the concept. :c

Big Brother is getting bigger, pretty soon they'll be monitoring everything you look at while on the web and censoring it, like they do in China with Google. Some kind of mass uprising is going to be needed to stop the progression of oppressive laws and sentences like this.

Notice he's not charged with child pornography, simply indecent material having been transported between borders. Even though some want to say he's being charged with child-pornography.

Also note that parts of the act in question have already been legally deemed unconstitutional, and the only reason this man is doing any time is because he's not contesting in hopes to keep from becoming another primetime name.

I'm sure most of this won't even be clicked, but if anything the last article explains where judges have already determined that parts of these laws are unconstitutional. I'm not advocating for or against cub porn, child pornography or anything of the like. I am however tired of hearing drivel and how sheep flock once the dog barks.

My intent was simply to point out something that struck me as odd. I'm neither for nor against either. My primary concern was less the content involved, but more the fact that one package was intercepted and opened via customs from Japan to America, which resulted in a raid of one individual's property.

I'm not inferring that your journal was drivel, more specifically the article linked too. The dogs would be politicians and government officials who have the power hungry need to control our lives and what we do/don't do based on their permission.

Agreed. I was also rather specifically careful in the title. As it was the obscenity charges that wound up being the final nail. I do appreciate the links you supplied, a good wealth of information there.

But yeah, it all boils down to the point that the Postal Inspector opened the guy's package...and personally, I'd like to know the actual motivation there.

A box or wrapped package from Japan, properly addressed to one individual...was it suspicious somehow? Was there some underlying reason that the package needed to be opened?

While I do disagree with the material in question, The ruling is still ridiculous. Fantasy=/=reality, and correlation=/=causation. But people just can't seem to understand this. We're getting ever closer to the Great Wall of Canberra it seems.
