My Opinion of the furry fandom. (at least for now)
General
Here is my major quarrel with how an artist presents his work in the furry fandom.
Incentive.
Let me clarify. As an artist I want to provide the best works I can to the best of my ability (note I am still learning and may not provide the best artworks to YOUR expectations) so that you have something to enjoy and revel in (in this case masturbate to).
As a furry artist, I not only enjoy creating furry porn for the sake of learning and improving but I also want to create a piece of erotica that might get you guys off. Believe it or not, as an artist (lol ‘erotica producer’) I actually have a goal in creating artwork that is not only well presented, but also sexually arousing.
The main problem that I experience is that furries don’t seem to care about quality anymore. Thus, how the fuck can you differentiate your art from the rest of the trite furry shit that goes on in the fandom? You guys (may) know me: I at least try to be professional and have created some decent female works in the past but it seems that in the furry fandom, ridiculous shit seems to win the popularity contest.
In my art, I stick to female canines and try to better my quality on just that subject: I’ve been creating female canid sketches for the last 3 years and only a handful of people notice. Do fetishes really win in the grand scheme of the furry fandom?
Mind you, I have a significantly smaller ‘brand name’ and hell even quality to a few other artists, but it still bugs me: why should I continue drawing my own preference of furry art if trying to improve it takes me nowhere? I’ve contemplated and tried to change style and direction but still nothing as far as acknowledgment goes.
To be honest, if I wanted to I could take the Bernal direction and just be a tremendous asshole, or start drawing odd/weird porn and get a ton of viewers, but I like to think I have integrity and can just draw what I love. I thought that my style would be enough to cater to the people who like pinups and cheesecakes: apparently furries clearly want something other than quality.
Thus, incentive.
I’ve seen artists like Adam Wan and MoonStalker sacrifice their passion or maybe just ‘position’ in furry art from what they used to create (beautiful females and wonderful images of all types) to overpriced commissions and popular creations that are clearly uninspired.
As for me, Lord MagicPants, don’t expect too much out of me. I’m not leaving, I love furry art/porn/weirdness/drama all that awesome shit: It’s just that I have known for a long time that this whole realm is bizarre as shit and I can’t really expect much out of it aside from porn. As far as incentive, I’ll be on the side lines for now.

FA+

Regardless, I stand by it hope some of you maybe see what happened to my favorite directions and artists.
Its cool though don't get me wrong: furry is so awesomely weird and confusing: its like a crossword puzzle from Brazil.
Sadly, a lot of folks outside of it think that the instant you draw anthro stuff=you're a furfag.
hmmm, i suppose its a betrayal to my viewers to not draw anymore...
I personally save and favorite many clean images that look nice or portray characters in a "cool" light, but to be honest, hardly any of that is around, especially here. Granted, there are some gems amongst the junk, but yeah, people think it's only about the porn, and THOSE people are technically the disease of this fandom.
Technically, what a "furry" would be is someone who enjoys anthropomorphic characters IN ALL MEDIA, not JUST porn. What about action? Comedy? Romance? All those are often overlooked and because there are too many wackjobs who are into other things and use "furry" as a mask (vore, snuff, gore, rape, macro, etc), and anyone of the real furry mindset pays the price.
*sigh* anyway, my rant is done.
The way that we joined the fandom or how we percieve it its unbelieveable to me because it is so different from how I perceive it compared to your perception. Goddamn I've wanted to understand this whole system and it never makes sense lol. i suppose i've ben looking too deep but i want to know what makes your guys tick: i supposes it just draw porn and flaunt it up...
This goes in all aspects of both clean an porn stuff.
It just seems like furry is in a changing time now. It seems the 'traditional animal tits' and 'OH HEY YOU LIKE THAT BIG BOY' lines are becoming cliche. That, and I'm seeing all of my personal inspirational artists (moonstalker, adam wan, karabiener, kacey) taking their own directions like their scattering. I see a good amount of new artists and their work they look really good: not to mention you Kadath: I've seen nothing but solid inspired work from you: you've improved on so many levels from VCL beginings lol.
I guess I just wanted to point out that shit is getting a bit hectic and I kinda want to sit back with a bowl of popcorn and watch
I find it awkward to draw anything that I don't feel inspired to draw, and/or that I feel would be a great addition to FA (hence, much of my work on FA isn't very "furry" --- I don't get inspired very much anymore).
Even so, I will NEVER reduce myself to the level of creating something just to be a "filler", and I hate to cut corners with quality --- there's just too many pictures on FA like this one;
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3455746/
The overall quality of artwork on FA blows big f***in' donkey dick (sometimes literally), but that's sort of inevitable with an all-inclusive furry art community.
Even so, FA *does* lend itself to some awesome artwork that would never be seen in an all-commercial environment.
As for all those whacked-out fetishes, I don't really get why they're so popular either (come to think of it, I don't WANT to know!). It wouldn't really do any good to say "You can't put any {insert theme here} on FA!", because that only creates a precedent to start banning things left and right; when that kind of thing takes hold, everyone will just leave FA and go somewhere else.
Even so, it still reflects poorly on the fandom's character that artwork like yours get's less attention than {insert theme here}.
*shrug* I can't really say anything else, so I'll just be redundant. Do it for yourself, draw what you want. No sense in frustrating yourself trying to appease others when they shouldn't really be that much of an influence anyway.
ive watched you for a while, ever since i got linked to your works via the stuff you did for Endenden, and its a shame i havent seen much more of your works since then.
i hope that you continue to draw what you feel like
If you just want to have more fans, start commenting on every picture you see and start writing more journals, and maybe upload more often. The image of Cheri on the floor with the bottle in her hand is rather fantastic and I'd love to see more.
I found you on here and put you on my watchlist for your sergal art, myself.
Its quite sad that a epic piece will be ignored by a chunk of people because "Oh mah gawd it has a vagina D: ?!?!?"
I absolutely love your subject matter (female canines = <3) but even if I didnt, I'd still watch your art, because its good. Not just because of "lol pr0nz", but because of the quality, style, composition ect. :o
Basically, draw what you want to draw. You may not get internet fame, but you wont get the feeling of selling yourself out or whatever. c.c
In my faves I have a lot of porn, but most of it is not of the "extreme" variety. Clean lines, a good view, well-proportioned characters (no truckload of boobs, for example) and some sort of actual emotion turns me on much more than a hyper dick spewing a river of cum into a generic slut-type character.
The thing that turns me off otherwise good art is actually either a bizzare fetish, a minor fetish I don't like, or just something being... off.
As a reference to you, I faved this: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/505494/
because it is just so... perfect. The proportions are natural, the pose with tail raised is definitely my favorite, and the lighting and perspective (plus arm over eyes) give the picture a certain warm and cozy feel.
Instant fav, that. In your gallery that's my favorite picture, I think.
On the other hand, I did NOT fave this: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/320904/
even though both Renamon and Krystal (two obvious favorites) are involved in a lesbian threesome. Lesbians are usually win for me, and with both Renamon and Krystal, how could it go wrong? Well, it's not only the kinda awkward pose and near-zero view of the actual action, but mostly the freak sergal (?) herm thing. Kill my boner, herms do. Murder. Krystal's face also look kinda... weird.
So natural female, lesbians, male or gays (in that order, mind you) with good "vibe" to the picture: Fav.
Most out-of-the-ordinary fetishes, awkward poses, unnatural gender: No fav.
Hope that helped. :)
