Trying to learn japanese

I'm starting to try to learn Japanese. I haven't tried to learn a language since I took a year of German in high school.
Right now I just got Rosetta Stone, since apparently people say that works. I also have a book on kanji, and I just got back from the book store with a pocket book on grammer and a Japanese/English dictionary.
Any body have any pointers on learning Japanese or know of any other references are a necessity?

well. you don't just learn romaji. its the exact same as the hiragana. its a waste of time to learn the romaji and then fit a symbol to the sound. you want to learn japanese, not english. learn the symbols and their pronounciation. makes sense right?

Well more like the wall to the outside was almost basicly just made out of glass due to the sheer size and we were on the 2nd floor hehe
