Create a head/face reference picture. I drew up my face and muzzle in the front, sides, rear, 3/4 sides, looking upwards, downwards and top view. It helps a lot. Also draw up a lot of expressions too. :)

Its possibly an ingrained part of your style *shruggle* I mean, the Sonic stuff doesn't always make the species too clear, but if you want to make the species differ, then emphasise the aspects of that species - particularly around the face then. Fluffify foxes about the face, add heckles (is that what they're called?) to wolves, pinch the snout to a point for mouses and the like. That sorta thing. I'm rambling. Any use?

Well, I can't really say much, I try to make the species I draw different from each other, if not the head, I change a different part of the body.

Foxes/Wolves:

I make the fox tail smooth, while the wolf tail is more jagged and spiky.

Crocs/Gators:

Since they both look the same, I just add claws to the gator's feet.


Just to name a couple.

Oh, wait, I add the claws to the Croc's feet, sorry!

I do play a lot with noses, ears and muzzles sizes :3! you could try that too, like make certain kind of nose for felines, bears, dogs, dragons, etc.

playing with the face shapes will make you vary the species the most really, but everything is used... with the circle... oh magic circle x3! you know when you draw a circle and start from there, that's how I draw so far =P

i work maily the 3/4 perspect. they are muchmore easy to handle. take a look at my pictures to see what i mean :) there are lot sof tricks to use to make diferent noses and faces, i am gona give you some painters when i see you in msn :):)

But you should know that you nose and snouts rocks :) i love the shapes you use!

Just draw single parts. Drawing single features like eyes, noses, muzzles, mouths etc.

Also, try to get some pics of the animals you want to draw, and copy it verbatim. then try to convert that little by little, by toning down lines and animating the features.

I sometimes test my styles and I mostly do mine freehanded, but it might be best to have a reference to help you with head and face direction.

Hmm, I been changing my styles eyes and ears but been having problems changing muzzles to look more like the species intended...
