Seriously.: T
Though actually the program of choice is another brand, but does the same job.
For some reason my in laws have decided they need to protect the innocent children in this household (consisting of their grandchildren, aged 9 and 2). Why now, all of a sudden, I really have no idea. And why this is being applied to ALL the computers in the house... I dunno... probably an automatic setting or something.
Obviously and luckily, FA isn't affected, however a few webcomics I read are blocked.. Now.. Oglaf.. I can understand... But Sabrina Online? What the crap?
Also inaccessable, unluckily,is The Jab Archives and my forum there... so... bleh.
Might be able to work with them over the weekend to unblock a few things I'd obviously like to continue accessing... however my husband did have a short talk with his father yesterday who stated that only pornography sites are blocked and didn't believe it when my husband told him this wasn't the case...
So. Yay. If negotiations don't work tomorrow, I don't know... overall it hasn't really impacted my web-browsing outside of the sites I mentioned tho I'm sure more will pop up as I slowly go through my bookmarks.
We really need to move out of this place. >.<

Personally, I consider anything done by Congress to be patently obscene and offensive. several hundred idiots up there, (I could double check the exact number, but that's not important for this discussion) and I only have a say in who three of them are.
you mean S-O-D-O-M. not Saddam.

All in all, there should be an agreement that ONE computer be unrestricted, and that the little kinder be told that it is totally off-limits.
Is it really hard to understand why that's blocked?
And really, for a comic that takes place in a porn studio, it's danged tame.
Good luck getting past the BS. :<
Welp, in my own flat, I AM THE BOSS; therefore I wish you two good luck with getting your own house/flat!
With physical access, I could conceivably throw a squid box on your network, reroute all :80 calls to the Squid by force, then out to the 'net through some wonderful configuration magick, and make you take whatever is there. One classic example is Upside-Down-Ternet.
It sounds like the way this app installed is much like what they do to some college students here: connect to the network, and if the network device detects you aren't running a specific application, but you are running a specific set of operating systems (eg: 32-bit Windows), it will force you to download the application, let it have its way, before you can get to ANYTHING else on the internet.
The more conceivable solutions for now are to either not connect to their network (probably not too feasible), walk around that bitch using Tor, or SSH-tunnel to something unfiltered and browse this way.
especially in MY House
(if it's Their house... well crapies... >.< )
try to google "how to hack net nanny"
i assume it means finding a password to reset your computers "security" settings so to say on the software...
http://www.cexx.org/censware.htm - there's a "how to get through net nanny" there
At least you only have to deal with in-laws who want to censor their net, tho. You're lucky your government doesn't want to censor everyone's internet.
Thank god it's been taken off a while ago due to it causing problems with the net, and hasn't gone back on since. What a relief...... that stupid thing was word sensitive and ruined my life...... parts of FA were blocked...... certain words would cause it to block pages..... my YIM was blocked....... had to use the web messenger...... I hated that thing. It didn't do anything good for me.
...and there's much more disturbing things being seen by young kids on Youtube every day than you'll ever find on the Ol' archives ...silly people
