They see me rollin'~... they hatin'~...
Well, it took a visit from my oldest brother and some conversation to get me to decide to reapply for California Unemployment. I didn't realize, at the time, how much it would piss off one or two of my "friends", when I got the first check. One would have thought these individuals would be pleased to hear that I had saved myself from financial ruin, as well as a number of family heirlooms we left behind in Cali. Not the case. Well, dumb story short: Those ties were severed and I won. I rode the tide in and stayed on as it went out. Now, I'm faced with a situation that could benefit me beyond what I expected to get out here in Arizona...
My housemate and mechanic managed to talk a friend of his into taking $1700 off a 1973 Chevrolet Nova, leaving me with a $3000 payment to make. Anything I can't come up with, would likely be covered by him or my older brother--or both. Reason?: My housemate and brother *love* muscle cars, and this one comes to me after having received enough love to be in running condition, good interior and exterior, and needing a little more attention to perfect (mild interior wear, is what I heard). Housemate understands my predicament, but is so caught up with the thought of having this beautiful, classic muscle car around to tinker with, that I'll have my chance to decide whether I want to spend almost all I have left on it... tomorrow.
I'm willing to trade immediate financial security for mobility, which would have its pros and cons. The benefit to me, would be the ability to drive further to find potentially higher-paying work (if the job I'm practically hired for declines to hire). The reason they might decline, as far as I understand it, would be if the drug test turns up abnormal results. What may throw them would be the two antibiotics and all the vitamins I took to fight off strep throat before Further Confusion 2010, followed by Scarlet Fever afterward the con (first antibiotic failed, or the infection was the amoxicillin-resistant strain)
It's been a long time since I had a vehicle of my own. To be offered something like this, with potential to someday become a classic show car (though it's going to become my daily driver for a long while)..? It's spending beyond my means, but my support network is apparently amazingly forgiving, and apparently willing to cut deals with their friends on my behalf. I'll owe big... but if THEY are the ones telling me to get the car--why should I ignore or decline and disappoint?
Besides: I love the look of it and the potential that comes with this venture!
[Can Skip]Ahem. It's been more than a year since I came out from Southern California to Arizona. The effort to get where I am has... well, admittedly not been that hard (I neither ask beyond my means or need much to thrive). Life took a hard look at me and felt I needed a wake-up call, back in April. Word began to filter back to me: Storage unit in California had no payments and threats of a lien sale were being fought by my mom... I was trying to find out what happened to my 1994 Saturn SC1 (took Sacramento DMV to tell me it had been towed [because they assumed it was abandoned], dismantled in August 2009, and its VIN retired)... top this off with the jobhunt here in Arizona producing no hits for me since November 2008.Well, it took a visit from my oldest brother and some conversation to get me to decide to reapply for California Unemployment.
