Luckily my friend didn't believe them and looked at the Wikipedia page anyways, and apparently she doesn't care if I'm a furry or not. *shrugs* Most of my friends are okay with it, but occasionally you get someone who judges furries solely based off of stereotypes.

I have yet to see that CSI episode, so I don't know how bad it is...but from what I've heard, it has been very detrimental to the fandom's image. I wonder if the producers know how many people they're hurting...

I doubt the producers give a shit. It's Hollywood, they'll exploit anyone if it earns them a few dollars. *shrugs* Which is really a shame, because quite a few furries (like myself) aren't really interested in fursuits, and 99% of the furries who do wear fursuits don't have sex in them.

Ah yes, Fur and Loathing in Vegas. -_-;;; That was a messed up episode on so many different levels.

The comments the female investigator (I don't watch CSI, so I don't know her name) makes are so out-of-line that they're almost hateful. I practically expect her to start shouting "YIFF IN HELL, YOU FURFAAAAAAGZ D8<".

I watched that episode of CSI. Honestly I didn't find it bothersome, even a bit humorous. Yes, I understand that because its a first exposure for most people then tend to stereotype furres that way. Well, stereotyping is bad in general so yeah.

Anywho, registration was blocked cause of troll attacks on FA.

It's the woman's comments that bother me the most. *shrugs* Because the main character acts disgusted with the furry fandom, it breeds hatred and disgust within millions of the show's viewers as well, and furthers stereotypes that furries are nothing but disturbing sex-fiends. :P

If I had seen that episode on TV, I might've been amused too. x3 It's when my own friends start agreeing with the stereotypes -as a result of that episode- that I get annoyed.

I think that depends on for how long registration is closed. If it's just for a few hours or for a day, that's nothing, but if it's a week, that seems a bit drastic to me. I know that when I'm moderating chat rooms, I have to set the channel to invite-only when someone decides to be an ass with bouncers or friends.

The ironic thing is it's usually furries themselves who either propose ideas to media outlets, or still willingly go along with stuff like this without thinking "hey, this might perpetuate some of the negative stereotypes that surround this thing I happen to be associated with and enjoy... maybe I shouldn't do this."

Sex and crazy are big sellers, you can't knock the media too much, they're just trying to make money. The problem is everyone who blindly believes what the idiot-box tells them; people make assumptions without thinking, it's human nature to be lazy- where in previous centuries, you might have someone do difficult work for you, now people let others think for them.

At the same time, all the whiny furries putting up a fuss about stuff like this and Crying On The Internet about it don't make much of a case against the sort of social reject portrayal. Unfortunately, the best action is none at all- don't speak up because it then makes you seem like a crusader, and when confronted, I've always found the quickest way to diffuse any issue is just passing it off with a casual response like "yeah I don't do all that kind of crazy shit; there's some weirdos out there, but you get that with anything- look at comic conventions, star wars fans.. it takes all kinds." If people push further, it's easy to bullshit enough to make them lose interest. Never let them think you actually know all the crazy shit that's out there :P

That episode was so funny. xD Of course I had no idea what a furry was at that time. And I didn't think much else about it, and learned the truth on my own a couple years after via internet. :B

Sure some furries do that, but not aaaaaall of them. Just like all of them aren't zoos, and all zoos aren't furries.

But just about everyone and everything is stereotyped, so.... yeah. D:

Not to mention: Most suiters would be disgusted by the idea of people having sex in them. You know how expensive it is to make those mofos? Just the good fabric alone is a small fortune! Add in work time, the pints of blood you lose from pricking yourself with needles, and if you ever want to have a moving tail or working jaw, the wire and electronics to work it, and you've gotta wonder how all these starving furry artists get the money. x3 Or maybe that's why they're starving.

Oh! And don't forget the Asian stereotype: I get that all the time. Which ... sucks because I'm horrible with most advanced maths. >__>

The no-talent hack who produces the CSI shows and a bunch of other crappy ones is none other than Jerry Bruckheimer. I hated him -before- I knew about the fursploitation episode. He also produced the Pirates of the Caribbean films, if I recall correctly. All the actors in CSI are terrible, the writing is bland, dull and derivative, and the whole mess is lit in a ridiculous way with some truly dreadful music.

Oh, how I loathe him.
