O YUS, I FUCK IN FURSUITS HURHUR
One of my good friends wants to create an FA profile, but when she clicked "Register" on FA's main page, she received a message saying "New account registration has been temporarily suspended". I tried it as well and got the same message.
Anyone know what's going on?
Also, I'm slightly annoyed at the stereotypes floating around about furries. :/ I texted one of my rl friends asking if she knew what furries were, and she replied back saying she didn't. When I sent her a link to the Wikipedia page titled "Furry Fandom", she immediately texted back saying that both her mom and her best friend had freaked out when I mentioned furries, cautioning her not to read the Wikipedia page because "furries are the ones that dress up in suits and have sex."
Guess where they heard this information? From that damn CSI episode. *FUCKING FACEPALM*
If I could punch whoever produced it, I'd gladly do it. >__> This world is a truly fucked up place if everyone bases their knowledge off of prejudice and generalizations.

FA+

I HATE this. It's like saying every German is a Nazi, or every Iraqi is a terrorist. All furries DO NOT have sex in fursuits!
I have yet to see that CSI episode, so I don't know how bad it is...but from what I've heard, it has been very detrimental to the fandom's image. I wonder if the producers know how many people they're hurting...
I doubt the producers give a shit. It's Hollywood, they'll exploit anyone if it earns them a few dollars. *shrugs* Which is really a shame, because quite a few furries (like myself) aren't really interested in fursuits, and 99% of the furries who do wear fursuits don't have sex in them.
Hell, I'd be afraid of getting my suit dirty. :P
I'd like to have a suit of my fursona one day, but it would be a completely clean suit, not at all sexual.
I wouldn't mind a red-and-black tail... not a full suit though. xD My friend has joked about buying me collar, and I hope she actually does. I wouldn't mind that either. >:3
I currently have a tail and collar; wore both at the last convention I went to. I even wore them out in public last Halloween--the girls thought they were cute.
I'm a bit shy in public, but if I was with friends, I'd still do it for the laughs. :D Maybe not the collar, but definitely the tail.
Anywho, registration was blocked cause of troll attacks on FA.
If I had seen that episode on TV, I might've been amused too. x3 It's when my own friends start agreeing with the stereotypes -as a result of that episode- that I get annoyed.
Sex and crazy are big sellers, you can't knock the media too much, they're just trying to make money. The problem is everyone who blindly believes what the idiot-box tells them; people make assumptions without thinking, it's human nature to be lazy- where in previous centuries, you might have someone do difficult work for you, now people let others think for them.
At the same time, all the whiny furries putting up a fuss about stuff like this and Crying On The Internet about it don't make much of a case against the sort of social reject portrayal. Unfortunately, the best action is none at all- don't speak up because it then makes you seem like a crusader, and when confronted, I've always found the quickest way to diffuse any issue is just passing it off with a casual response like "yeah I don't do all that kind of crazy shit; there's some weirdos out there, but you get that with anything- look at comic conventions, star wars fans.. it takes all kinds." If people push further, it's easy to bullshit enough to make them lose interest. Never let them think you actually know all the crazy shit that's out there :P
Sure some furries do that, but not aaaaaall of them. Just like all of them aren't zoos, and all zoos aren't furries.
But just about everyone and everything is stereotyped, so.... yeah. D:
"Eww you're a cheerleader, you're a stupid, annoying, ditzy prep!"
"You wear black! You're a emo kid!"
"Don't get that dog! It's a Pit Bull! He'll eat your baby!"
Oh! And don't forget the Asian stereotype: I get that all the time. Which ... sucks because I'm horrible with most advanced maths. >__>
Don't worry, I suck at math, too. D: ...Well I'm not Asian, but still. >> The world is full of stereotypes. :<
There are some who I would never tell, however. >.>
