Coloring Style
If there is one thing i constantly experiment with... other than how to draw paws, its how i color. Now, keeping that in mind, I often judge how well i do on an image, based on its favs to view ratio. Most of the time, the subject of the image changes these numbers of views and favs, but generally, the ratio stays about the same.
Anyways, ive noticed that certain images get a better ratio than others. Sometimes i find it odd, as i found one image to be drawn better than another, but the other gets a better ratio.
But to be honest thats besides the point. The point is, id like for you guys to quickly review a few of my recent submissions. Id like some feed back on the way they care colored.

- This is a style i often color in. I use a transparent, hard brush for the highlights. And a soft brush for the shading. With a bit of a bright highlight near the edges to show light source. I like this method because its soft, but shows the shadows and highlights well.

- This one uses a lot more blending with soft brushes, but more importantly uses dynamic colors for the shading.
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3533143 - Eox Ref Sheet
- This one gets a great ratio compared to the others. Is it simply because of all the nice poses, or do yall like the way they are colored? Would you still like the images if they were each seperate instead of compiled like this? The shading is done with a soft brush. Highlight were originally done with an opaque brush, but i made them bright. I then blurred the living hell out of it, which gives it that soft blended look throughout.
Does that method of coloring look better than my normal style? Does that soft blend of color for the highlights make the image look more apealing?
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3381401 - Its a Trap
- This one gets a horrible fav to view ratio. Does the traditional style of coloring and texture of it make it look less appealing? I personally find the more traditional medium look far more intersting from an artistic perspective. However, is the subject of the image just not to everyones liking?
Anyways, take a moment to review the different images. Does any of the coloring styles catch your eye? Which one is your favorite? Which would you prefer to see more of?
More than likely ill continue to just be dynamic with my method of coloring. All of this mostly comes from the great ratio i got from the reference image. The only reason i find this a bit odd is that i find some parts of it to be poor anatomy, but at the time i was just going for fun to draw. I figure everyone likes it because they thought it was a nice ref sheet, not so much that each part was well drawn.

FA+

I will admit upfront that I fav'd hyper pink because, well... precumming/cumming dragon = hawtness. But artistically, I would rank those four from favorite to less favorite as Eox's Ref Sheet, Bitches Love Me, Hyper Pink, and It's a Trap.
For the first (the ref sheet), the colors work really well, but even beyond that, it feels like it has a very nice balance between the sharp contrasts (where green meets black) and smooth shading. It just seems to give it a very polished feel, with nothing sharp when it should be smooth, and vice versa.
The second (Bitches Love Me) I would say is a close second, with the only possible criticism in my opinion is that it's perhaps too soft overall. But even then, I feel I am complaining about what I don't like, and not so much what is "wrong." (I hope that makes sense. As I said, I'm tired.)
For third (Hyper Pink), I would point out that I can see on my monitor where the pink was highlighted, and that it has a scribbly sort of look to it. It doesn't really seem to be clear cut or blurred in, but just sorta slapped on, almost. Besides that however, I think the image is good otherwise.
For the last (It's a Trap), I'd have to chalk my dislike of it up to the image looking sketchy when your style traditionally looks... I'm not sure I can find the words for it right now. I want to say cartoonish, but I worry that would somehow come off as insulting. The best way I can think to describe it is that there are images that look good because every aspect of them is made perfect, and images that look good because they are left artistically imperfect, and your art more often seems to be the first of those two. I'm not saying you can't do the latter, but I think in this picture that wasn't taken far enough perhaps, and left in an uncomfortable middle.
Hopefully some of that helped. If it didn't, my apologies. I should not post when I'm ready to pass out at the keyboard.

Does the smoother, more blended style for the highlights seem more appealing? Are the colors not dynamic enough now, compared to the previous version?

And i also spent the moment to redo the pre/cum cuz i thought it looked ugly before.
As for the pre, I think the changes made were an improvement. Not sure what else to say on it though.
Overall, I think the second is more appealing.
