Soundtrack: Lordi - Who's Your Daddy?
---
I recently updated/ replaced some of my computer equipment and software. Various minor and major things, most importantly a new LCD wide-screen. And I switched from Painter Classic to Painter IX. In the long run this should no doubt help the quality of my work - For a while I'm likely to produce junk, though, as I adjust to the new equipment. :P I'll probably do some more practice pics, like my recent submissions, before I resume work on more elaborate paintings. I'd like to finally complete that SH3 fan-art, in particular. As always, I appreciate any feedback on my work, so I know whether it's going the right direction.
While I'm at it, I'd also like to "poke" my various collaboration and trade partners, since I haven't heard from most of them in a while. So, if you're alive and haven't lost interest, you might want to send me a mail or something. :P
And that, as they say, was that.

Also, isn't corel painter X already available?
And yes, it's been out for a while now, actually. But it's more expensive than earlier versions and I'm not sure it would even run on my machine. Painter IX, on the other hand, runs surprisingly well. Only been playing around with it for a few hours, though, so I have yet to test it more thoroughly.
And cool, I'm sure painter would be a good software. I just hated how it kept crashing on my mac so bleh... it probably runs better on windows. Most of the commercial big softwares I've tried on osx have been a dissappointment to me so far. Opencanvas's oil-emulations and such are way inferior to painter but it's not like it matters to me anyway since I usually just use the pencil-tool or airbrush.
I'd love to try watercolors and a real airbrush some day :) I just might have to buy some cheap set when I get my own apartment so I can leave my prons to dry without any nasty questions from my flatmates ;D
And as for Painter - Not a single total crash so far, and I hope it will remain that reliable in the future. *crosses fingers*
I don't care too much about realistic emulation of traditional media tools, myself - Doesn't matter what a tool/ brush is called, as long as it gets the job done. But I do like the various textures and blending effects Painter's brushes produce. I've grown rather tired of perfectly smooth looking CG work.
And yeah, it would be great to do some serious traditional media work, but at this point I'm going to stick to CG, for its various advantages. ( Costs, time, flexibility etc. ... )
What brand was your own LCD again?
When I say "junk", I mainly mean that it's very simplistic, in content and/ or technical aspects.
