Kind of the same thing happened to me just earlier Dx

Actually, it's more likely to just crash without saving or asking.

augh mine was like that before i got more ram, i refused to use PS for anything other than editing a scan for the longest time

Ergh, sucks. I've been burned before by this and corrupted files, so here's some good habits I developed to avoid tragedy:

1) Save when it's a blank canvas. Right away, give it a full file name and all the goods.
2) Get in the habit of saving often, almost obsessively. Use the keyboard shortcut. Be able to tap it fast as if you're a keyboard gunslinger.
3) Periodically make full backup copies of an image as you work on it. I usually do this before I embark on a major change to the linework or coloring.

As Ramzkun said in the post above - I've made it a habit to save after every larger addition to the piece.
I no longer think about it, I just do the "save" shortcut constantly.

Saving alone though isn't enough; always a good idea to make duplicates of the file from time to time. One time I accidentally saved a low resolution version of a picture over the high resolution one. That was bad. :<

And I hate it when that happens, usually when GIMP crashes.

That is why you hire someone to save things for you. I will save things for you. $45 an hour and I'm all yours.

Art final piece, junior year, worth a blistering 70%. NOT on a computer (yes that's a long time ago) I closed the book while my work was still wet. not only was it smeered it sealed shut. v.v Yes I failed.

My heart goes out to all those suffering from MHD (Mycomp Hatesme Disorder)

Teach yourself to hit ctrl+s every few minutes. It has saved me from many a heartache, as I used to not save until the piece was finished. :P

What's kind of funny is your icon really matches the mood of this journal.

I always screw up saving processes. D:

This one time...I got all the way to full shading...and started adding a background...and Photoshop glitched and died before I could save it. Now I save every couple minutes lol.
