Anyone know any good Apartment searching techniques/sites?

I might be thinking about moving out within the next year or so and am curious if anyone knows of any good techniques or websites one can search for looking up apartments.
I have tried, but some want you to pay some fee for them to show you the info and others just don't seem to work that well.
I am curious if others have ideas of websites or techniques that one can use when trying to search for apartments.

I asked a friend and he found his place on Craigslist.
"Listen to the Hot Dog."
