Oh, I wish you had posted this a few days ago. I had found a site that offered free, good quality music beds. I believe they had quite a few sound effects as well. I will try to dig it up again.

Well, if you wanted to fake it, you could always take some plain noise, add increasing "plate" reverb, and then...I think it's a "flange" that makes it do that pitch-down thing like you hear in a balloon? c_c
That way you could make it go as long as you wanted, just by slowing down the effects. :D

opening an air tank: "fwooouuuu..." actually a hollow sound, as the hose gets filled. but writing it is quite a task.
air flowing: essentially the same, i think. an already filled hose barely makes any sound at all. it's valves, moderators or nozzles that create whistling sounds.
stretching: "creak"
rubbing:"squeak, quik"
close to burst: "croooak"

maybe that helps. i wouldn't recommend trying to research in suberhero comic pages; their sound words are impossibly silly. :)

Hmm, lets see, I would like the sounds of an air tank valve being opened and the air flowing out, of a (large) balloon squeaking as it's rubbed, the sounds of a balloon inflating, the groaning sounds of a balloon nearing its limit aaaaand the sounds of a balloon going bang. That should cover the basics, got anything like these?

Don't let is discouraged you too much from making animations, it sucks loosing the files yes, but you could always think of it as extra practice, and who knows, sometimes the second try can be better then the first now that you know where all the mistakes are. Just remember to start each round of editing as a new copy of the last file you made.

It's not so much discouraged, as just really annoyed. I was thinking of splitting bigger animations into files of about 6-20 seconds anyway.
