The greatest zombie game ever!!!

Before your dicks start twitching no, there is no such game, at least to my knowledge. However I have been giving this some serious thought. Why is it in this day and age that there is no good zombie games? I mean REALLY good zombie games. Allow me to elaborate. Using the examples of Resident evil and Left 4 dead the two most well known if not popular. Have you noticed that in ANY zombie game, you don't have to follow the most basic of zombie rules? The first one that comes to mind is, shoot them in the head. Now in older games, graphics and hit detection did not allow for such accuracies, but in first person shooters like L4D and the new Resident Evil controls that allow you to place what you want, where you want, there really is no excuse.
Now the first rebuttal that might come to mind is that the infested in RE4 and 5 are not really zombies and that they are better then zombies. Well no, in game cut scenes give you the illusion that they are smart and work together, but in an actual fight they are no more combat effective then an angry mob nothing a multitude of ammo and brains won't fix. Another argument would be that zombies are slow and dumb and would be easy to take care of, and I would say, yes, the five zombies in an other wise deserted street would not be a problem. However I don't want to talk about older games, I want to talk about making a realistic and GOOD zombie game.
The idea I have for a zombie game would be to make it like a hybrid of Fallout 3, GTA 4, MGS4. What do I mean? I want a massive landscape, a small city with its shopping mall and burning or smashed office and apartment buildings., with its suburbs, family homes, back yard pools, a multitude of garages and unused cars. and rural areas with there farm houses, barns, even a large prison. (this is possible, its just takes some fucking guts to make it.) The main character (you) would be completely customizable and his or her attributes would affect what you were capable of in the game world. There would be those who know how to operate military grade weapons and have hand to hand combat skills, and there would be those that know how to pick locks and hot wire cars (other wise, you better find the keys.) Knowing how to cook or even read a map could help you out a lot too. Anything you can think off that could help make one unique.
I think with the exception of the main character (or characters because we want a multiplayer right?) There would be pockets of survivors, or communities held up in different places trying to weather the zombie apocalypse. You would run into people would are just trying to survive with their humanity intact, you might run into people who would otherwise not trust you, or knock you out and throw you into a gladiator ring with zombies for their twisted new world amusement. (Thank you,The Walking Dead) You might run into people who have run out of food and turned cannibal ready to shoot loan travelers, the zombies might not be your only problem with gun toting rednecks and cannibal hillbillies!
Now lets talk about the zombies, zombies exhibit different characteristics, there are those who will pursue even the smallest noise they come across, and there are those who will wait for something to come to them. Zombies travel from lone shamblers to massive mobs of hundreds or even thousands, once one zombie sees another zombie going for something it causes a domino affect that would lead to swarms. What does one call a large group of zombies? A mob? A heckle of zombies? Do they herd? I know......a Murder....its a murder of zombies -.-
Zombies will largely walk, but the fresher the faster, from a slow jog to a brisk run. There will be zombies that are forced to crawl do to the lack of leg power, or simply the lack of legs, making them perfect ambushers hiding in tall grass, unkempt lawns and underneath cars. Guns would largely be ineffective, except for a brain damaging head shot, a system like the V.A.T.S. From Fallout would help the player in this. Things like chest shots would do nothing but to either stall or knock them down but they would get back up, leg or knee shots would bring them down to a crawl, possibly causing those following to trip over them buying you escape time.
Different threat zones would exist, there would be a few zombies out on the farms, but you would be worried about getting shot by red necks. (with the possibility of a Murder of zombies passing through on the harder difficulties.) The suburbs would be crawling with the undead, unfortunate families, children and all. (an aspect that could be used to influence the character in a negative way.) The down town city streets and highways would be thick with hundreds of them. At no point in the game would you ever have the bullets to go duke nukem on them, one would be forced to think and choose when it is appropriate to fight or run.
The the guns and ammo would be dependent one where this game takes place. (America seems to be the first thought.) No more of this finding boxes of bullets just laying around in nonsense places, I don't care how right wing the city is, your not finding an A.K. and ammo in the local Denny's. Never mind the fact that not all handguns are chambered for 9mm but do you know how hard it is to load a 15 round semi-auto pistol in an intense moment from a box of loose ammo. One should need to find clips to make a fight easier, also the correct bullets! You might find something in the truck of some person that owned a gun, or you might need to look through cop cars, or rifle ranges. It might do well to establish contact with some......militia gun nut group that will barter for guns and bullets.
Also, no more of this magic healing spray, you should be able to find would you need anywhere to help yourself. Morphine, adrenaline, bandages, stitching wire, even duct tape at any pharmacy, first aid kit in a home hardware, clinic or hospital. If you get bitten, game over, you turn and die, but the game would have to provide a multitude of ways to prevent this, from armor to defensive moves also it would make it very clear that the game does not tolerate heroes.....or gun toting douches.
I have no idea what the story would be like in such a game, but it would have to be a sandbox game, I want to ignore shit and do what I want, I want to be a survivalist and live in my safe house or secure safe haven in one of the communities, who might take you in depending on your Karma or reputation.
Well this is all I can really think of now but I encourage discussion and additions. Lets talk about this, what would be the greats zombie game!.

It does sound harsh, but like i said i want a realistic zombie game, i suppose for beginning difficulties you can throw in a health bar, but as i pointed out, the game would provide a multitude of counter measures. A quick head stomp, a shoulder shove, just be thankful i don't add scratching or you would be royal fucked. You have to remember that zombies are a walking disease and the game and the player needs to treat them as such.

Wow! I've always wanted to try a sandbox zombie game! I would be especially excited at the prospect of deciding how to survive. Do you try and find other people? Or do you horde away and leave them to die(my choice )? I think it would be fun to explore how peoples jobs could help them in this situation, not just the obvious ones like a doctor but ones that are seemingly random but do in fact exist. For instance if someone worked in water treatment maybe they can use the equipment to acquire drinkable water, or someone who was a psychologist can (occasionally) get the cannibals and rednecks to see reason.

indeed it would be cool to see how many different attributes you can use in a game, and even over time learn new things to make your char better. And everything would be your choice, maybe turn cannibal yourself! or become the lone savior of some poor town bothered by rednecks, or join the rednecks and pillage! The BEST zombie movies, aren't about zombies, but are about the people that survive them and the choices they make and how fucked up the world can get during the apocalypse.

I actually find it fun to imagine what to do in the situation. This would probably be good practice in case we ever do get zombies.

Now we just need to get someone to actually make this game.

That will be the hard part....

I always thought taking the concept of Urban Dead and turning it into a first person MMO would have been interesting. A multiplayer environment might not work with every one of your elements though.

I do agree that a multiplayer of like 20 people would be hard on a big game, but it would be nice if you had a friend over and he/she could pick up the other controller and make a second char. Or have one on one online assist like RE5. Fallout out 3 would have been even BETTER if you could roam the waists with a living friend.

ACTUALLY, there is a zombie game like that and it WAS a resident evil game.. the resident evil 1 remake for the game cube. The only way to kill the zombies was to shoot them in the head or set them on fire, it was one of the more tough zombie games in my opinion

Yes i remember that, the REmake was cool and don's misunderstand my statement above, i love RE and L4D was.....alright. My complaints are strictly nit picky, and to that end i could point out that again in the REmake that there was still that auto aim.....they could have done better to enforce the zombie myth that they always talk about but don't do. I would love to get a hold of Chris' blood, all the times he was bitten but never turned, he must be immune!.

lol you have a one track mind, as much as i could using the money i don't think it would get far in North America......maybe a mod. Besides, there would be no challenge, people like you would just walk into the zombies.....again....and again........and again....
