Lowering your standards?

I spend most of my time being picky, and then I give up and make something half assed.

I recommend finding some good music, and then getting lucky on a sketch and feeling really good about it.

Finish a picture, then be picky about what you didn't like about it and just keep drawing while remembering what you wish to change. Seriously, you stop being so picky if you just do it like Grisser said.

I'm fighting it too. It's really hard to do it when you _have_ to do it. You probably need to take a break and then come back with all the strenght

Just do a pic. Doesn't matter what it is! :D

Come to the realization that art isn't always about the end product. Use watercolours solely for the experience of using watercolours, and not for control. That's what broke me the quickest.

Also, get a hippie painting teacher. :P

GET RID OF THIS

I had/have that problem a lot, too, and I think trying to do some speed paintings helped. Because thinking as you're working is super important, and you don't want to get rid of that, you just want to train yourself to think about the important things, rather than every little detail. Having a time limit is also really helpful in giving you a reason to call something "done."

So I'd recommend starting to do a 5~10 minute and a 30~45 minute speed painting a day (or whenever you can) in addition to your other stuff. At first, you'll probably hate what you come up with, but if you keep at it, you'll start to find that you can get more and more across in less time, and it helps streamline your whole process. Then you can take those lessons and apply them on longer pieces as well, and you'll be used to walking away from pieces that still have some rough edges to them, so you hopefully won't be quite as concerned with making every little detail just so before letting go <3

I seem to have the same problem, but I post the stuff I do nevertheless, the best thing to do would be to just post the stuff you have and wait for feedback (Which I admit is very rare here, but what can you do?) and see how it helps you.

I'll have to check back on your journal sometime, who knows? maybe it'll help me as well!
