Why so long? >> Rant Warning<<

So tell me... is it wrong for me to be upset that I have waited more than 6 months for a commission? I paid for it, was told it was being worked on... and now... I can't even get the artist to reply to my notes or contact me.
Now I understand that live happens... the real world comes first... but I paid >real< money to have this done... doesn't that make it real world too?
It has happened on more than one occasion now that an artist has put out a cry for help, and I am one that if all my bills are paid and I have it, I would rather help someone in need. I few times I have planned commissions, wanted specific artists and instead went with someone else just because I see they needed help,. 4 of the 5 times I have done so now, I have waited MONTHS for finished pieces.
Now I understand that taking on emergency commissions sometimes means adding to their overload and that it may take longer... but they offered to do the extra work for the quick cash. Why should what I paid real money for be any less important that what the other commissioners paid for?
So again I ask... am I wrong for being tired of seeing people cry for help then put the very ones who stepped up as less important?
I don't bug the artist, now and then if it has been a while I may note and ask for an update... Don't you think I at least deserve that?

FA+

you're not wrong, and it sucks that people do such things that would make anyone feel taken-advantage of
Another artist Never did my picture for me like he said So i finaly asked for the money back he was pretty nice about it but I could tell he was kinda pissed about it...
I dunno I wouldn't suggest paying for something again untill you see progress or a finished piece you Agree with.... its safer that way...
In this cast the artist is a really good artists, and the work is worth more than they charged, so I have been more patient. They did post a journal some time back about not having net. But work can still be done then uploaded at a wi-fi spot or the library or something. I mean 6 months?!
he also made a journal with a cry for Quick cash so I helped... gave the money expecting for a nice commissioned piece but I waited 5 months and never got anything... oi.. Im not going to reveal as to WHY it took so long because he asked me to keep it secret but i think he used it just for an excuse....
I honestly think that the best payment method would be "half up-front, half when it's done". If they're desperate enough for cash, then they'll get it done so that they can get the rest of their payment. And it's not like they're being completely deprived of payment beforehand, either. It just seems to me like the fairest way to work out a commish deal.
