Two, I never posted the list for the hundred sketches on my FA because it's simply two massive. I do have a list of everyone safely locked away in my Gmail business account and grouped together so I don't loose track of them.

Any idea what happened to it? It's not easy to fix things from afar, but maybe it's something simple.

Well, the moment windows tries to load it freezes up. I can run Vista's bootup repair thing and it says it works just fine, but the computer never actually finishes booting up windows. Thus my problem. I'm hoping a reinstall of windows will fix things, but I want to make sure I don't reformat the hardrive or at least get all of my commission files off of there before I do anything just in case something happens. I have enough material to make an Art CD and I don't want to loose all of that.

Yeah, don't format the drive; your data is almost certainly just fine and there is no reason you will lose it short of the drive blowing up.

I'd be curious what the results of a file system check would be. Since you tried the startup repair option, I assume you can boot from the Vista DVD, so try doing that again and instead of choosing Startup Repair, open a Command Prompt. At the command prompt, type ' chkdsk c: /v /r ' (without the quotes) and let it do its thing. It will run for quite a long time (probably a couple of hours at least) because it is checking your disk for bad sectors. After it's finished, it will report the results of the check on the screen, so have a look at those. It should say somewhere "0 KB in bad sectors."

If that number is not zero, shut your system down and do not try to use the drive again until you are ready to back it up; it is failing and must be replaced. Hook your hard drive up to a working computer and copy your files off ASAP.

If it reports no bad sectors but says it has repaired the file system, try booting normally again. Let me know if any of this is helpful!

Could you plug the monitor you usually use into your laptop? If you can, that should at least get you good colors until your desktop is fixed.

you could use a live CD to copy off your files. i can recommend ubuntu, it's pretty easy.

this will allow you to access your HDD without altering anything, and without the need to boot windows.
