Console vs. PC thingy

General
I'm definatly a PC gamer. I got into gaming during the reign of Wolfenstein 3D and I've never looked back (except to count my own frags).
I enjoy primarily FPSers, though I love RTS games as well (namely the Command and Conquer series).
The only consoles I have ever owned have been a Sega Dreamcast (it came free with a TV/VCR combo I bought while in the millitary and since I didn't have access to a computer, I played Quake 3: Arena on it) and a Sega Genesis (it had a Jurassic Park game that allow the player to be a 'raptor and I just had to finish it).
My consort,
witchiebunny has a PS2 (which I bought her as a gift) and the other day, I saw a copy of 'Black' at our local game store for a cheap price. It was FPS I already knew, and since I also knew that a PC release wasn't planned, I decided to give it a try.
As I was playing, with The Bun watching, I began commenting on the differance between thumbsticks and a keyboard and mouse. The Bun had this to say:
"The console gamer who manages to match the PC gamer in skill, speed and accuracy will be quite the gamer indeed."

I have a PC and play StarCraft from time to time, and sometimes I play Battlefield 2, and I can honestly say I find them more enjoyable than consoles. That's not to say that consoles aren't fun; oh, no, they are very fun. Call of Duty is the prime example in my book.
I feel more 'at home' with PCs because using a mouse is more accurate than using a joystick. In the real world, soldiers don't use joysticks when fighting in a war-- they use their own hands and arms. The mouse is just an add-on to such; a replacement, if you will, of the soldier's gun for use at home. You have unlimited movement capabilities with a mouse, because it's designed to follow your movements precisely.
Joysticks are pressure sensitive, and are designed to have a maximum response speed of whatever you desire, but no matter what you choose, they will never be able to match the accuracy, preciseness, and speed of the human arm.
And that is my position of PCs versus Consoles... well, for FPSs, at least.
I find that the keyboard/mouse setup is better for precision targeting, but if the contoller has a lot of autoaim, it can shift the balance in its favor. While keyboard/mouse may allow for more precise targeting, autoaim with a controller can allow you to easily keep your crosshairs on the enemy for a much longer period of time, giving you the kill.
However, KB/M players have the advantage of the keyboard, and multibutton mice, which means customizable controls and easy access to multiple functions - a lot more than you can use with a controller.
When it comes down to it, I think that if a game that allows both KB/M and Controller focuses on keeping the two control mechanisms fairly balanced, you won't see too much of a skill difference.
They both make fun.^^
Computers however, are multi-task devices. They can do a lot more stuff then just run DVDs and play games - which kind of justifies the much higher price. But you also have to worry about - not only the higher price - but having the right setup.
I can't play Half-Life 2 with FakeFactory's Cinematic mod because my comp can't take it without a significant upgrade (and it's upgradability is at it's end). That also means that when I get C&C3, I'll probubly need to set it to it's lowest setting in order to play.
But then, as they are now, you can't really download mods for an XBox copy of Halo 2, or for Brute Force. You're stuck with the game as it is.
Yet I've heard that soon that might change - and with the larger harddrives, XBox/PS3 owners might be able to connect to the internet to download custom files. In that case - why don't they just get a computer?

Also, consoles games are more of a, er, "industry". And everything that comes with it.
I personally beleive that the PC is a superior platform, yet my local store doesn't carry more then half a single rack of PC games (they don't even display new releases). Yet all the walls are lined with console games, console excessories, console adverts and so forth.
I've had people tell me that PC games are a dying genre - no, they aren't dying, they just aren't a lucrative.
