I hear that Eragon cries like a little woman in the movie like three times? Is this true? I have yet to see it.... actually I dont really want to see it, everything I have heard says it sucks.

Anyhow back to THE WORLD of Warcraft.

Nothing's wrong with good ol' Vader, or Lucas' story. But I don't like how fans are automatically saying the book and movie(not that I care for the movie at all) are a rip off of SW. I like StarWars (StarTrek even more mind you but yeah)... The fact remains that there were a good amount of cliches in StarWars and even the newer ones at that. But I'll leave that rest. As for Eragon crying like a woman, I only think twice when he lost two people. Enjoy WoW >P

Personally, I cannot stand Christopher Paloini's writing. It's hard for me to comprehend due to bad grammar and sentence structure. >.O'

Truth be had, it feels like I'm reading all sorts of old fantasy and sci-fi novels at once. He 'borrowed' too many ideas.

But to each their own. I did hear the movie was horrible compared to the book, and I would rather deal with neither. XD

Lol, its alright. Personally I like the book because its about dragons. I want to read some Pern stuff, which I feel he did draw from heavily, even though I did not personally read Pern.

I thought the movie was ok for what it was.

I never read the book and don't really plan to, but I can totally agree about how fucking annoying it was (and still is) that everyone was saying, "OMG, it's Star Wars and Earthsea and Dragon Riders of Pern all at once!" I mean seriously, what the hell?! So if I happened to be writing a book that involved telepathic dragons, then what? Would they fucking burn me at the stake, too? I know of at least two video games that have that exact concept!!! Did they bitch about it then? Of course not!!! They didn't make that kind of money!!!!!! And don't even get me started on Star Wars and other books and games that involve people riding dragons.

For that matter, why don't they just bitch about ANYONE who writes stories with dragons in them? I mean, obviously they'd be copying the guy who originally came up with that idea too--why not jump down their throats for that?! Oh, wait, I know why. Because that guy has been dead for hundreds upon thousands of years, and it doesn't matter anymore. Riiiight.

So Eragon had a few things in common with other books and ideas--so what? Where the hell do people think young writers get these ideas? Not everything comes out of the ass is fresh, ya know. There are so many writers out there now that it's nigh impossible to completely avoid borrowing someone else's idea. I strongly believe that if a person read a book and found one of the ideas cool but put a new twist on it, there's no harm in having a similar concept within the grander scheme of things. If it was such a bother to the author's of those books and ideas he borrowed from, they'd have said something by now. THEMSELVES.

Funny how it's always the die-hard fans that get more pissed off about that shit than the original creators...

Thank. You. I cannot thank you so many damn times. Post modernism people. Everything and anything has been done. And truthfully, Frank Herbert's DUNE came out before StarWars, and look at the MANY influences Lucas seems to have compared to Herbert's work. Mind you, I do like StarWars, and it has a neat premise... But Herbert's work was done in the 1950's early sixties if I'm correct. (Not talking about the movie, the book) and personally I LOVE Dune, absolutely love it. But it really does come down to the fact that diehard uber-nerd-fans are going to KILL anything that remotely looks similiar. For instance, Legend of Dragoon. I absolutely love that game, everything about it is breathtaking... And here some moron comes up and bitches on how its like FF7/FF8 because the main character is blonde with spiky hair and Rose is a dark haired emo-girl opposed to dark haired emo vampire. =/

OMG, someone else actually loved that game as much as me. *passes out* :D

But seriously, even I could see small similarities like that, but it sure as hell didn't ruin my time playing it. Hell, for what that's worth, I might as well say they copied every mecha anime on the face of the damned planet. And for that matter, how many different versions of Sailor Moon knock-off's are there? Uh huh, LOTS. And yet they get away with it. Why? Because Japanese people aren't as possessive. They LIKE imitations/fanworks of any kind.

Now, I'm not saying that we should necessarily like something that is exactly like Star Wars, Dune, or anything else, but we have to know and accept that eventually, someone is going to do something VERY similar. They already have similar Potter books out, and the author I'm thinking of has similar cover art to boot! Not to mention that after Laurell K. Hamilton gave modern vamps an even stronger foothold than Ann Rice did (ooo, Ann should sue!!! Then Stoker should sue her!! And so on until we've completed the great American cycle of lawsuits and fan-bitching!!!), publishers have gone out of their flippin' way to create entire paranormal romance sections.

Anyhow, I could go on forever (and feel like I have), but the bottom line is this: People..scratch that, FANS need to chill the fuck out.

*Chuckles* Ah well... I'll just leave it at that. I really haven't read Eragon, but I've read some of his Eldest. So that's that. ^^

Well - it wasn't so much he had similiar ideas, he blatanty took some names, and even some straight ideas.

I know the whole thing about Eragon's caretaker stealing coins from a coinpurse of a man at a tollbooth was taken right from another book. @_@' If I can find the comparisons, I'll show you.

But again, I'm not going to whine and the like. O_o I just don't care for the boy's work.

Well in his defense, he probably knows that you can't really copyright a person's name (as far as I know ;P). It's more of a faux pas.

But, eh, I haven't read everything in the world and certainly don't plan to try, so I probably wouldn't have noticed him using something from a book I know nothing of. Especially if it was from a young-adult book. Sorry, but, I like a little more steam on my pages than they can offer XD. But anyway, I do understand what you're saying. However, since the publishers didn't say anything when they got it, and (again, as far as I know) the authors of said "yoinked lines/names" haven't done anything newsworthy, I take it as them not minding as much as everyone else.

The book sucked. There, I said it. It was unoriginal, the characters were boring and half the damn thing read like a summary. I don't flippin' care if the kid were 5 when he wrote it he needs a new editor to say the least, and the piece of shit would NEVER have been published if there weren't this whole, oh-so-salable "He wrote it when he was 15" thing going on. I intend to watch the movie ^_^ Heh, but only 'cause it'll make my sister crazy.

On another note I like the old star Wars, have avoided #2 and #3 because #1 was such a disappointment to me, I miss Harrison Ford being young...

Lol the book is alright but like Wovstah said its an odd way of reading. I've only read a bit of it. As for the effects, they were alright... Again it was only good because of Saphira. And I liked her voice that's all. As for SW, three was better, but a little cliche. Then again where is SW without it? *Grins* I like the older ones better myself.
