Grabbed from Syrinoth:
"In the Furry Community Art is...
... valued more for "Name" and popular content: rather than style, originality, and skill.
... something people are expected to do for less than minimum wage: unlike the real world.
... less valuable if there's no detailed "moneyshot".
... in the "content saftey zone" ninty percent of the time.
... riddled with unshared secrets: while big name industry level artists are willing to share information.
... allowed to lack any form of proper composition, anatomy, proportions, and color theory.
... often an escape that can turn into a form of torment if the artist isn't careful.
... strongly influenced by the lowest bidders and the loudest voices.
... often overlooked.
... Caged.
These are the things in this community that need to be changed. To strive for new heights. To set the art at a stature parallel to that of art in the real world. Make a real difference: share, learn, teach, and grow!"

FA+

yeah, thats my opinion on it >:
his whole aim is to make furry mainstream.
but he's very adamantly against porn. he doesn't draw it
ever
and he thinks that to fix furry as a whole, we need to draw less porn
The problem is that since people already draw mass amounts of porn, people think it is ok. It is extremely difficult to change an entire population's mentality.
There's my two cents.
I'm not trying to say porn is bad... because I love it!!!
I was just trying to say that if its the only thing on FA then it's bad.
don't be so defensive
what's wrong is that everyone associated furry with it directly. It's not like manga/anime style, where there's a bunch of porn, but a bunch of NOT porn too.
furry IS porn, and the not porn doesn't get any love
why do you think i draw nothing BUT PORN? it gets a lot of attention.
to make furry 'okay', then we're going to have to dilute the giant semen glob of porn.
lol
that's why i advocated "more, better clean art" instead. let the fans have their porn, it'll stabilize the fandom at large. :P
we need to have more clean art.
i didn't say less porn..
did i? O.o
I sincerely doubt the existence (and honestly, personally don't want to see the emergence) of a Van Gogh with talking porcupines.
IMO, I think any artwork is great art as long as the artist put as much effort into creating it as they can. ^^
and color > lineart in most cases :(
It impresses me, but i oftenly see people calling art anything that has mature content, not caring about anything related to the "artist" skill or technique, and in their search for that, general themed art is oftenly overlooked. ( don´t misunderstand me, i like porn, but that dosen´t make all of it art ).
So... To furries : Art = porn. XP
Because its "allowed to lack any form of proper composition, anatomy, proportions, and color theory", people choose to draw well or badly and the same goes for porn. People chose whether to draw it, and let’s face it sex means page views in this world.
No offence guys and girls but I look for at the art first and the porn last. Why, because if I don't like the artistry I certainly won't like the rest of the content.
And yes I noticed that a lot of furry art is porn but that is where the term yiffing comes from, it separates the art from the porn like hentai does to anime.
My thinking is that "furry" does not have to be mainstream in order to expand its range and that being mainstream means different things in different countries anyway.
Which is to say, that if the comparison is supposed to be with the "real world" industries, which is something Syrinoth's list seems to imply in a couple of places, then we need to be allowed at least some sensuality and a wide range of content, just like most of those visual industries, rather than pretending we are normalizaing the genre by simply removing all overt sexual references. Only a relatively small part of the industrialized world is really that puritanical about removing all sensual elements from cartoons etc. anyway.
I think that our anthro genre can be a lot of things all at once. The problem is that many fans, and of course some artists, expect it to only be about one thing and even mock it when it tries to be anyting more:
"What? You tried to tell a real story that wasn't porn while using silly anthro charaters?!? That's just EMO!"
Etc.
its very very true... its so true its deppressing... and thats why its true... sad aint it?...
nice prospective btw...
