Awr, I was gonna suggest Eternal Sonata's soundtrack, but it's like, the personification of laid-back ambient music. x)

You could try pretty much anything from Frank Klepacki, he's known for composing for the Command & Conquer series and does pretty well electronic rock stuff.

Haha, well I do like laid-back ambient stuff, just not really all that suitable in this case, though. I hadn't heard of Eternal Sonata before, but I love Motoi Sakuraba's stuff, so I'm gonna take a bigger look at this soundtrack, for sure! Love what I've heard so far, with Pyorxene of the Heart being a real highlight.

Also, try checking out No Regret Life for some Japanese Rock. I have recently only sampled one of their songs but I am in love with Haruka Kanata. Then there is Asian Kungfu Generation which is not bad if you want some soothing rock. Theeereee iiisss An Cafe if you are into Harujaku Rock, and LMC. Those are all jrock bands. If you want me to continue I can! I know a lot of japanese bands~
