Journal Start
To coincide with our upcoming UI update (and one of the largest site updates in FA history!) later this Summer, we're looking for artists! What for you ask? For emoticons!
Yep, that's right. We're looking to refresh our little embeddable buddies with fresh new faces, new themes, and best of all, it's open to everybody. Absolutely everybody!
Icon requirements:
* Clean and worksafe
* 32x32 pixels large
* Images must be PNG with a transparent background *OR* GIF (animated or none) with a transparent background. No JPGs. Seriously. We'll slap you.
* Must have 15 unique icons (or more!) per set.
We'll pick the best five sets or so and put the rest on display for the community. Oh, and those selected for FA's official emoticons will all get $50.00 each in monies to spend on whatever they want.

Deadline: End of July
Oh, and one more thing...
Whatever icon sets you make should be public domain! Yeppers. So, if our friends at Furocity or our buddies at SoFurry (or wherever!) want to use them they can. This is as much for the entire community as it is FA. Bonus! Our only requirement is we get to preview them first (and give you all the credit and attention and spoonsful of minor furry fame you can nibble!).

Also, they won't like, auto-change will they? like, :D will stay :D instead of turning into a emoticon? That would be neat.
For example, one user uses the Fender set, another the Dragoneer set, etc.
It wouldn't be like we use the light or dark theme and that's all we ever see,
it's like, you can put a 'Neer next to a Fender.
And you'll be able to use all sets, or at least, should be able to. =3

FA is gonna look completely identical to the new Steam, and also pretty close to dA with a different color.
Personally, I thought that looked great.

THIS NEEDS TO BE ONE
A set of 15 or more is allowed. Is there a maximum number per set or can we get crazy with it (20's to 50's to 100's)?
May we send more than one set if we can think of many?
so, species specific or just general emoticons? reason i ask is that i can see it being a desirable feature when you set your species to have that related set available when you're making comments. i.e. you play a tiger? tiger themed icons are available... play a fox? fox themed. etc...
oh, and for sake of uniformity, in case different artists' sheets are chosen, what about thinks like drop shadows or the like?

Since many anime fans are also furs, I think anime emotes (sweatdrop and more) should be a part of the set, as well as furryisms like lick, scritch, glomp, yiff (maybe), and others. If anybody needs a set to look at for ideas, DeviantArt has a wide range of emotes. http://comments.deviantart.com/emoticons
I'm not a pixel artist, so I can't do emotes. I know it's hard work to make them though, and that what I said might be asking for too much. Just throwing ideas out there for anyone who does them. Good luck to those who are participating!

If we now really consider new emoticons (what I've read, not all are happy about it.) for the new FA layout, I suggest that the one making the emoticons tries to make them fit with the new interface as good as possible, instead of having the different emoticons be made in all kinds of different styles.
I do wonder what the new interface probably will look like, and if a sneak-peek is revealed somewhere, I think making the emoticons in the same style as FA's new interface wouldn't be too hard.
Suggestions for what emoticons needed/wanted is also a great start.
