Fur Affinity United
So, I'm considering going to Fur Affinity United in a few weeks, since it's only about an hour away from me. I've always avoided cons because I'm really not that into the fandom as a lifestyle thing, but I think it might be a good experience. With that said, any advice for a first time con goer?
* Find folks you know you do (or would) like hanging out with outside of just furry-specific stuff.
* Find out what activities are in the area for when your interests don't match up with the events currently running at the con.
* Prepare to fend off folks who may mean well, but aren't quite socially aware enough to realize when you're not in a conversational mood.
** Also prepare for Too Much Information in resulting impromptu conversations.
I definitely enjoy conventions, and if it wasn't for AC I wouldn't have met some of my best friends (Who know how/when to turn the "furry" state of mind off). It takes a while to tune out the bad, but there can be plenty of good in there. It's just really tough for a first-time con-goer who doesn't have a set group of people to hang out with.
