.hack infection is what's on the box exactly, there were 2 and 3 at the store too...

Correct! You have the first game of the first series. It goes Infection, Mutation, Outbreak, and Quarantine.

Then you've got the G.U. series which is Rebirth, Reminisce, and Redemption

Both games are "sequels" to two of the .hack// animes (Sign and Roots respectively). Ive only seen most of .hack//sign and its great (despite it being dialogue heavy and little action). I also have Infection, myself, though it was beat with a Codebreaker because the final boss pissed me off (of course at the time I was at an age where I didnt like grinding....still dont, but not the point). I didnt really continue with the series either because other games came out and I just forgot about it (that isnt to say it was a bad game though)
