Is this logo full screen? If so, try hitting Esc to see if you can get a list of what it's really doing.

it is full screen, and I hit everything.. and nothing seems to happen at all

Get it back down to basics. Take motherboard out of case, put it on a cardboard box (like the mobo box if you've got it). Add ram, cpu, video card. Attach power supply. Plug in keyboard, monitor, power. Short the power-on contacts with a screwdriver. If it works there, attach your hard drive. If that works, CD-ROM drive. Add one component at a time.

If your initial test rig froze, it's one of those five components causing the problem. Swap out parts as necessary to try to eliminate the problem.

If you add all the components together and it works perfectly outside the case, make sure all the motherboard standoffs are in the right position, none are missing, and none are extra, which could cause a short under the motherboard.

Hope you track down and eliminate the problem easily!

the video card is intergrated into the motherboard (I will upgrade later) and pretty much all I have plugged in is the hdd, monitor, ram, cpu and input devices (mouse, keyboard) so pretty much the only thing I didn;t do is run the motherboard outside of the case.

I'd try the case thing. Any other computers around you could scavenge parts from for testing, like ram or power supply?

Well the case thing seemed to work. I put a piece of cardboard under the motherboard and it started right up. must have been shorting out to the case or something.

Yay! Glad you got it working. Double-check that all your standoffs are in the right place, there's no extras shorting out below, and there's no missing ones causing the board to touch down where it shouldn't. I wouldn't leave the cardboard there permanently bolted between the mobo and the case, it'd act as an insulator or maybe even a fire hazard with the heat a CPU can pump out.
