Seriously. Dirk Tiede, the author and artist for a web comic I like called Paradigm Shift, just posted a link to the blog post complaining about the Last Airbender movie on his twitter. Dirk has sold many copies of his comic, and has appeared on television several times. So imagine my surprise when I see the name of the person's blog he linked to, Gene Luen Yang. I know him as Mr. Yang, my FRIKKEN COMPUTER SCIENCE TEACHER! WHAT THE HELL? THIS IS JUST WEIRD!
I knew that Mr. Yang had picked up some recognition when his graphic novel American Born Chinese was the first graphic novel to be nominated for a National Book Award and first to win the American Library Association's Printz Award. But it's one thing to know that your teacher is sorta famous another entirely for someone you thought was completely unrelated to mention him.
Link the the tweet in question, which contains the link to the blog post, which I happen to somewhat agree with: http://twitter.com/dirktiede/statuses/14792860267
...I'm going to need to find and talk to Mr. Yang tomorrow.
