Adopted A Dog!
I adopted myself a dog!
I found him wandering around outside when I was heading out to get some exercise. He was wandering around in front of the front step of my apartment when I came down. He started to follow me, and followed me about halfway down to the apartment office, before he started to wander off on his own.
So, I decided to follow him. To see where he would decide to go, to see if he'd eventually head back home.
After seeing it was clear he was just wandering aimlessly, I eventually managed to pick him up.
According to a neighbor I'd passed while picking him up, the dog's been wandering around for a couple of days.
He just let me carry him, and seemed to relax in my arms. I carried him back to the apartment, and after learning how animal control would handle him if they got him (they'd try to find the owners, then put him up for adoption to whoever wanted him; no first picks for the person who found him). Well, after learning that, I at first planned to put out fliers to find his rightful owner.
But after I went out last night to get a couple things to tide him over, and ended up getting enough to make him my own pet, I decided to just keep him and see how things turned out with having him around.
So far, he seems very friendly and sweet, just pretty skittish. Though after he had a good night's sleep with me, he seems more relaxed and at home.
It will still be a while more at least I think. Maybe he'll never grow the kind of backbone I'm used to seeing in my dogs, but he's very quiet and affectionate. (It almost seems like he's become a part of my lap! Every time I sit down, he makes it clear he wants to hop up to join me).
Here's a couple pics I took of him last night. I decided to name him Ash, since he's kind of an ashy color, and, well, I just always kinda liked that name!
