some of them, yes. the Rolos commercial I know is shot on 1's

I bet the pencil tests were a pain in the butt. ;) Imagine what the exposure sheets looked like.

Oh, and of course, fluidly animating to Python...how can you possibly go wrong?

The character style in the Russian Sherlock Holmes reminds me of the Yellow Submarine.

1's are like....the animator puts some kind of animation on each of the frames for 24 FPS. usually has a very nice smoothened out look to it, but it's just a pain
2's are "every other frame" being different. usually does the job, most animations are done this way, and isn't such a pain in the neck.

Oh YES! I love the Straight-Ahead animation posts! A very straightforward way of showing that you CAN animate in Flash without constantly relying on "tweening" :D

he's one of those frame-by-frame animators to start with, anyway, and he's just using another tool

flash is ok for not tweening, anyway. it just has the tool available for those who want(or don't want) to use it

Ahah, well, he can't have entirely animated that stuff straight ahead, yanno - he'd have had to have put in some dialogue accents first, so that he didn't miss them, done the body action straight ahead from one pose to the next, and then gone back to draw the lips afterwards. So saying he did it "straight ahead" is slightly stretching it, but I will assume that by saying that he meant that he didn't plan or or back and fix things, which is impressive enough for me. C:
