Just some thoughts on FA

Going through FA, and poking at all the week points of it.
After talking to a certain furry, I was told that FA is still currently using old code (which has been later been modified or added on to). I honestly still think they should have gone through the major python rewrite which would've prevented certain crashes.
I obviously don't have access to this code (but I know it's CGI/PERL), so no worries about that.
Another issue about FA is how it's currently being moderated. If an user comes on board, becomes popular, floods the site, it will be handled.
Being an IT for an website hosting company, the first thing I will personally see what's going on. If it's something like the site being flooded, you would think a cluster or a load balancer would take care of this. If that's not the case, then you obviously need to fix your code.
But, the way FA is being handled.. the first thing they do is well.. ban the user that's bringing in the flood.
If the mods are reading this..(not like they will), I would really, really like to volenteer to improve FA.. heck.. even get that Python project off the ground (although I think Django would be a better choice than Pylons)

FA+

I also think doing away with the 'medium' size might save a ton of bandwidth too. I mean - most people click full view anyway, right? That's a bonus 50k down for every piece of porn ya open... And god knows how much we all fap. :f
A more aggressive measure would be to switch over to a more ajax page loading. It'd alienate older browsers but you'd save bandwidth on the partial page loads.
:f Just some pointless ideas.
Every little bit counts, especially with large sites like FA.
I remember at Califur, someone said something pretty interesting:
"Nerds with power isn't a good idea"
