Professional Advice for those who take [Allan] Commissions
15 years ago
You are responsible for who you do business with. Even in the creative field, this is how the real world operates. (Ask Don Imus.) If you take a commission from someone and post it to your gallery, you are opening yourself to whatever shitstorm brews when you post it.
I'm not justifying the ranting on the comments- yes it's unfortunate nobody can appreciate the art (which 99% of the time blows anyway /opinion), but it's the second half of the equation to you being too lazy to assess your clients.
Some quick digging is a good idea whenever you take a commission- the 5 minutes (or in this case... honestly... 4 seconds) it takes can save you the headache of notorious scammers, dumbasses, and people who aren't worth your time.
Blindly taking commissions is an excellent way to destroy your reputation.
For-Dummies Version: This isn't about [Allan's] actions, this is about indiscriminate artists taking commissions, posting the pictures in their gallery, then wondering/bitching why there are loads of angry comments.

I think your original comment is bait anyway, or Catch 22, because the way you wrote it could cause drama (which I'm not trying to instigate, rather just intellectual discourse) but you could've easily gotten in a heated argument with someone. It's not as easy as saying "hey, no one should comment."
Anyway, that's my thinking. :3
I can understand where the artists who have a bussiness coming from, thats a little right there
There are horrible people in all walks of life and the more I know about, the less chance I have to put up with their nonsense!
If someone doesn't speak up, then nothing changes. Simple as that. Whether it's gonna get somewhere or not, at least it was done.
As far as reputation goes in the fandom, hes not talking about -that- kind of reputation :3 mistakes are made to be corrected, hence this journal was made.
You're right, not everyone is as "plugged-in" to the fandom to know to be informed, and those who are may not care.
I think Azur's point (below) is very important too. Welcoming trouble can only cause trouble, so you'd really have no one to blame but yourself. If you're an artist who takes a commission from Allan, and you're swept up in whatever drama occurs... well, you may have gotten the money for that piece, but it may lose you money in the long run because of your involvement with Allan.
Just sayin :3
In the end, it's really up the the artist to keep an ear to the ground, which I think is good businesses anyway. You wouldn't want to be selling to a market you're not involved with in any other commercial sector (like selling shrimp in the movie Sunshine Cleaning), so art shouldn't be too different.
If your client is a known serial rapist / murderer and you do work for them and turn a blind eye to their reputation then you're responsible for the backlash against you as an associate.
I'm not saying it makes it wrong, I'm just saying you had it coming.
