Yeah. I wish someone would put the new machine through its paces to see if it's any more reliable. RROD claims have apparently dropped off since the Jasper chipset, but given that this system is in a new case with altered internals, who knows if they just repeated the same mistake?

TBH, on games that are cross-platform, I regret not choosing the PS3 versions. Between their almost offensive nickel-and-diming and their insistence on proprietary nonsense, Microsoft has done nothing to win me over in the long-term. Come the next generation, I'll certainly think twice about their product.

Dude, I am in the SAME situation. Mine RROD'ed today. Since I bought it refurbished two years ago, I had no idea if I was still covered or not. Called support up, and they said NO...was originally purchased October of 2006.

So yeah, I am in the same fucked up situation. Don't have any fresh backups of my saves, so I will have to shell out $15 for the transfer kit.

But then again, since I am poorer than dirt, it may be a long time before I can get my system fixed or replaced

Well, for downloaded content, you can transfer your license to another console on their website and then re-download the content. It's the saved games that are a problem.

I don't play games like Mass Effect, so I think I might see if I can ignore the saved game problem. I rarely go back to saved games anyway. But I can see where if you are an RPG gamer who spent dozens of hours working on a profile how this would be infuriating.
