I survived the earthquake!

So I'm sure that most out there know by now there was an earthquake here in Ontario Canada yesterday. What?! You didn't know that? Well, there was an earthquake here in Ontario yesterday. It's centre was just North of Ottawa and measured 5.5 in magnitude. Now, I'm not in Ottawa (anymore... I lived there when I went to college), I live about 7 hours away and I STILL felt the quake!
Our studio is on the 9th floor so when the tremor started the building began to vibrate a little. I thought someone was just running down the hall behind me but then it got stronger. Computer monitors where rocking back and forth and everyone got up from their desks to look out the window. Not sure what they expected to see really. The best way to describe the feeling was it seemed like the building was wobbling back and forth. It was really quite scary. It last about 15 seconds so not very long, but long enough to shake up everyone in the studio. Even after it was done and over, I felt that if I rocked back and forth I could make the building sway again.
Even though it was just a minor tremor, the mind tends to make up "what if" scenarios. I work on the 9th floor of a building, if something more serious where to happen, would I be able to make it to safety in time? I have issues with death and dieing that I'm working through (that's another post) so something like this made me a bit edgy. I wasn't in hysterics or anything. I'm actually quite calm in emergency situations. It's only after that I see how scary something was.
Anyway, I'm okay and by the sounds of it everyone else is too. Which is a good thing. ^_^
Has anyone out there been in a scary/serious situation before? How did you react?

We must have caught the tail-end of it. ^^
As for a scary situation, there was one I thought my last second of life was over. I must have been around 16, waiting the green light to cross the road (a 4-ways one around Paris), with a pretty dense but fast circulation. For some reason still unknown to me at present times, I thought cars were stopping at red light (it was not close to the crossing line but at some distance, important detail), as there was a gap between the one that passed and those I saw something like 100 feet away. I still have that image of seeing them stop right now, but THIS WAS A PRODUCTION OF MY BRAIN!!!!
And thus I found myself right in the middle of cars going at around 40mph and that could not stop because of the density of circulation........................ Still don't understand how I ended safe at the other side, without even any car collision.
not the same earthquake as this one btw, it was a year or 2 ago.
Granted, I'm right up against the lake, but still... It's a long ways away from Ottawa.

Just relax!
also it also affects if the waves are upwards or sideways (trepidatory vs usuals)
eehhe. I still can't get over the fact that while I was living in western KY there was a quake in...... Salem IL?
Anyways, we felt it where we were but it was like a 5-10 second shaking, I was most worried about the fishtank suddenly deciding to "take a walk" off its stand but it hadn't........ so I was happy. I did however roll my eyes because that was very little shaking and I heard about it for a GOD DAMN MONTH. c'mon now x.x
I know how you feel. I live in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Pretty close to Haiti. It was quiet scary the one here.
I don't fear earthquakes...I fear shotty buildings not built to withstand them. and you might be surprised which would be more likely to come down,... an old "solid" 2 story brick building or a skyscraper built since 95 (some dates later in some placees, depending on the city) but the skyscrapers are meant to twist and absorb the energy while the brick just goes, "prrromp" and thus it doens't take much to take down a old brick building :3
Don't let it bug you too much ^.^ you shouldn't worry too much about a 5.5 quake.... just as I mentioned to someone else, the "ripples" go farther and stay stronger if the crust is relatively unbroken ... the more interference the lesser it spreads
The funny fact was, there was no damage to my room or the house whatsoever. And I was just 20-30 miles from the epicentre. I knew a lot of people felt it, as swiftly almost all of my MSN Contacts came online, asking if I had felt the earthquake as well. It was pretty weird.
