try booting in safe mode press F8 (i think) before windows starts loading at boot. If that wont work try "admin" as the password. Most of the time thats the default.

If you can't remember the password or anything, the only thing you are gonna be able to do is reformat the drive and reinstall it, either that or you could try a system restore, not sure if that would help at all, ohh btw the first mistake was using nortan its a virus its self >.>

No in fact nortan, mcafee and a few other main stream anti virus programs install a back door trojan thats untraceable, what it does is prevents any other anti virus program from running untill you reformat your hardrive, its something I had to learn the hard way along time ago, how else do you think they make their money, somebody pays for this installs it and then tries something else, it doesent work so they are like ohh well nortan worked and go back and buy it again because of that virus. its why i dont trust anything besides avast and a few other select programs

Regular admin passwords are Admin, admin, Password, password or the password field should be blank. Also try hitting ctrl-alt-del at the login screen, this might bring up a dialogue box where you can type in the username and password. Just type in the regular login info and (if his regular account has admin access) you can change settings from there.

I know you've had some issue with safe mode, but give it a couple tries. Sometimes just restarting the computer will unglitch something.

If this doesn't help look for windows xp password hackers on google. You might have to wade through a few lists of programs but there are free ones out there.

When this computer is running again (if you have to reinstall everything or not) please get rid of Norton. It's listed by a -lot- of people as bad software (most call it malware). Then go to http://ninite.com/ At the middle of the page there's a security category with Essentials, Avast and AVG among other stuff. These are all legally free to download (some you have to pay for extra features but you don't really need those)

I suggest you get malwarebites, ad-aware and spybot. Run all three at least once then you can uninstall them. After that get Avast or AVG (both are good) and keep those going instead of Norton.

While you're on ninite take a look at all the rest of the stuff cause all the stuff there is really good ^^
