it uses the Gems you get from treasure or what ever as its components for spell casting. like ruby would be used to cast a fire spell dependin gon the quality gives damage rank and caster level means number of dice type thing. but its main weapon is a beam of light an emit at will with out the gem lens that they can build it just blinds for 1 round. but if place it through a ruby lense it gains 1d4 to 1d6 fire damage. so on.
would be a nice thing to add to my dwarf rune mage
