Why can't I "Friend" someone without actually WATCHING them?
I know a number of people who either aren't artists (and photoflood) or whose art I don't really care for, but I might still like to friend them. As a result of this it's harder to keep up with those annoying people who ONLY network on FA.

Hrmm. How so?

Either wade through the person's submissions, or lose track...?

I wouldn't worry - now they've got some competition (ohai inkbunny!), the four years of sitting lazily on their asses is going to come around to bite 'em. I predict a frantic effort to hack in a load of the use cases that any decent art gallery should have supported from the outside, which'll probably wind up causing a load more bugs before the code collapses into a big-ball-of-mud-induced-singularity. And we all migrate somewhere better.

OP
Since FA isn't a profit making venture, I doubt competition is of any concern.

Competition doesn't have to involve money or profit, nor is it a bad thing. I would hope remaining competitive would be its concern, because it's quite clear the alternative it's demonstrated these past years is to stagnate, let stupid trivially fixed bugs and problems grow and fester, and not introduce so many useful features because 'what we have is good enough'.

OP
If anything, having alternatives available means people have no right to complain, because "you can go over there."
