I want to make characters look older or younger but I suck at it... any tips? (other than height)

try adding lines under the eyes, or if you're going for really old, add a beard.

Not too sure of age pictures, other than drawing the limbs longer and making them look more different then they usually do.

you could try just messing with the proportions of the head to the rest of the body, generally that works quite well.
