About commissioners that cancel the commission (having paid upfront) and months later acts like this never happened, and he expects you to deliver? this, considering he doesn't speaks english very well, little less understands it.?
What do you think about me explaining the situation to him, telling him I can work on his stuff apart, when I deliver the commissions I have at the time from other costumers, and he again tells me to drop it all, and 'never mind'?
Can you forsee what happens recently? The same thing. There are more details, but basicly is this amnesia things all over again... This time I asked a charge to take on the stuff because there's people waiting for theirs, and he has threatened me more than one time to slam me and tell eeeeveryone that I ripped him off. Because I couldn't refund him in that time when he cancelled, and he told me to forget about everything, he didn't care about the money, and stuff. He wanted it all gone... I suggested to wait a while to make decide about the cancellation, 'cause I knew everything was out of sadness, but he wouldn't listen, and now... I have it all again. Waiting for him to reply, imaging what he'd say.
I'm a slow worker but never have ripped off anyone. It's very unfair to encounter this kind of not serious commissioners, because I really cared about him, and he takes advantage of that.

- Cancellation at any time, artist gets %50 of the payment regardless if all, some or none of the artwork has been finished. Due to time, effort and labor i will be paid 50%. All items that are left unfinished will be sent of the refund.
Yeah i met 1 individual who did that and i put a stop to it. They must agree to the "Agreement" and so they understand if they cancel, you would still get your money for the labor.
Trust me it comes in handy and its safer so that you get your pay and he gets the refund.....just only half that he gets back. If he wants to rehire you
he has to make the regular payment as usual. Individual gets angry, hey....you tell him " Waste my time, Pay my time". Done deal, work on the next guy/gal.

But generally yes, if you haven't started on the drawing and you have nothing to show for it, regardless of how long the wait was, then I believe that the one who commissioned the piece should be fully refunded. If there has been work done and you can present it, I think that pending on how far you've gone, yeah... you should be entitled to at least half of it. Otherwise, find out what they want to do and come to an agreement.
It's the last time I pay for things up front. Meh.
AND language barriers suck so much... they complicate everything, and THAT I know from experience with some talented but flawed translating artists.
i pay the half after the sketch is made and then mainly the artists go away and never talk to me again
and when i ask what is new or wrong they act crazy. ive i was the bad guy.
