Truly golden moments that speak volumes to the audience, often without even having to say anything.
Characters that take on a life of their own, playing out events in ways that are surprising and unexpected, while at the same time you sense that it is the only possible outcome that would have been genuine.
Writing that seems to genuinely understand what it means to see things from different perspectives and backgrounds.
A sense of timing, rythm, setting a scene, building a moment, giving one shot enough time to sink in and grow, giving action sequences an almost musical sense of motion and dance.
And of course things that are simply clever, touching, funny or just plain cool.
Storytelling at its finest.
Yeah... almost none of that was in the movie.
It was just an adaptation, like most adaptations, like when you say "the book was better"
I'm sorry Shyamalan. Some people have it, some don't.
(afterthought) (Oh yeah, and NEVER see 3D movies unless they were FILMED in 3D to begin with!)

FA+

like Knight and Day :D
As you said, Touche!
Computer-converting 2D movies to 3D is as dumb and disrespectful as computer-colouring black-and-white films.
Basically, if I want to see pretty effects I'll go look at whatever game trailer square-enix put out recently :)
The acting was a bit dry at times but I didn't consider it horrible by any stretch. I think they did the best they could... for example, the ridiculous faces Sokka makes in the animated series could never be made in real life and that's half his character.
The action sequences and the bending were very well choreographed.
I guess the best way to describe this movie is that it's a Cliff's Notes version of the first book of the animated series. It's the super-abridged get-you-caught-up-to-speed summarized version which only really works if you already have a great feel for the characters.
Having said all that, I think that if you took the same cast and gave them 61 20-minute episodes to tell the same story verbatim, they'd probably do a pretty good job at a live action Avatar and I would definitely watch it. If they manage to somehow make a movie on Book Two or Book Three, I'll go see those, as well because, as a fan, I'd rather see them made than not. I don't think they've done anything to bring new blood into the fold, however.
Your Zuko costume is pretty good, but your scar is on the wrong side.
Quite awesome when they do, though! I love kids movies.

the moral of the movie hit home with me. "stand up and do what is needed, take responsibility for your actions and regardless of your wishes, sometimes life throws a path in front of you and you must take it. turning away only brings trouble and eventually you will have to go along that path you worked so hard to avoid."
it is a movie for kids and i know there are little things here and there in the movie that don't flow with the animated series, but if i was a parent, this would be a ideal movie to take my kids.
I'm not disagreeing with you, it's just that there are different ways to look at it. i don't like m' night, but honestly in my opinion, this is one of the best movies he's ever had a hand in that didn't piss me off or make me want my 2 hours back.
decent movie with a good moral. looks like it was mainly intended for younger generation. (the animated series was too)
